    Nice Glider flight Saturday

Tony, It was neat to see you and the Bride in SSA magazine yesterday. I was paging through and I said "I think I know that feller!". Tim

Thoughts on FAA/EAA's response to Jack Roush's Accident

I flew into KOSH for my first time this year, so take this for what it is worth. They (the all ecompassing "they") have control over what goes on on the ground at OSH. If there is an accident on 18/36 and they have emergency services available to respond appropriately to that situation only...

Wx was terrible for me on saturday. Ceilings were low, and when they did lift a little, it was pretty durn murky. Tim

    Midwest Lunch (26/27 June 2010)

Well, it is still OVC001 here, so I don't think I'll make it to Monroe and still have time to make it home to watch the game at 1:30. Tim

Am I way off base here....

On the original question, Yes, I think you are off base. Smoking a tire a bit during training is normal. Flatspotting to the belts is not. You should pay, without question, and I think $100 is quite reasonable. However - you screwed up a little. That's okay, we all have at some point (and...

If you go, keep us updated. If my 40 hours are flown off, I could try to meet you for lunch on Saturday. Tim

    Hawaii

Last summer I rented a 172 from Georges Aviation out of HNL. http://www.georgesaviation.com/index.html Prices were reasonable for a 172, and the instructor was a great tour guide for my wife and I. Plenty of time for sightseeing/photos with the instructor there. Plus, you get to log time...

    Length of aerobatic lessons?

I can't handle more than 30 minutes. Less than that sometimes. Total time around 45-50 minutes. If I push past that, I'm not learning anymore, I'm just padding the instructor's wallet. My instructor was great about this, encouraging me to keep the lessons short. Tim

    Tailwheel Endorsement Training Begins!

Jeanie, The 7ECA I fly seems to like an airspeed on final around 75 for wheel landings. Slower than that my sink rate is too high and I plunk more than chirp. I'm not looking at the airspeed as I roundout, but I know I've slowed quite a bit before I touch down. I do keep a touch of throttle...

question about experimental aircraft and congested areas

The DAR issues you your operating limitations at the airworthiness inspection. They are a required document in the aircraft. 25 hour is for a certified engine/prop combo, 40 hours if not. There may be exceptions. Tim

    Rich Stowell Video

I've done that entry where it drops a wing and rolls over nearly inverted to enter the spin, but the spin itself is a normal upright spin. Is that what happened? Tim

    Bang for your buck

The gel pads made a world of difference for me. I still would like to eventually get ANR, but they sure improved the PNR for me. I bought two pairs of these: www.tinaspilotshop.com Click "product overview" -> "headsets and accessories" -> then scroll down to "Lightspeed Gel earseals"...

    *N/A* motorcycle question

I've been on both, not for long periods, but enough to form an opinion. The TLR felt sloppy and loose in the corners compared to the RC-51. The RC-51 turned with less effort, and held the angle without drama. I felt part of the bike on the RC-51 - like it was solid. I just never got...

    *N/A* motorcycle question

You dog. I've got some butt time on an RC-51 and I loved it. If'n I would wear out my ZX-11, I'd be searching out an RC-51. RE: Harley's - I've never owned, but I've ridden plenty of friends. Guess what - they are fun, comfortable bikes. I don't understand anyone's bias, it is just like...

    When's grass too soft?

I'm not "seasoned", but if I'm leaving ruts or anything more than slight depressions I'll hold off for the sake of the runway. Our runway is occasionally closed in the spring, this year it was just NOTAM'd "SOFT". Soft meant you left ruts and the mud sprayed up and on the wings. I used it...

    Wanna see an Aera 510?

What is keeping you away from the Bendix King AV8OR? It is less $$ than an Aera 500, and you can add weather later if you want it. I've had mine for a couple months now, and am happy with it. Tim
