Please contact me if you know of a 172 for sale, our club is on the hunt and is ready for purchase as soon as the right plane is found. We are looking through all the normal channels (Barnstormers, TAP, etc) but many times the best option hasn't been advertised yet. So - If you know of a 172...

    ZenithAir Camper

Certainly true - but this would be fun! And satisfy a project itch. Also, if they will have a "just a shell" option (like what they had at KOSH), those who are sitting on a serviceable but low value pop-up camper could pilfer it for the furnace/stove/sink/fridge/tanks/batteries/etc. Tim

    ZenithAir Camper

It certainly caught my eye at KOSH, that would be a fun build. I'll make a call to the factory as they say they are evaluating interest right now. I didn't see the estimated build cost - where did that number come from? Was it on some materials at the show? Tim

SIM pilot did pretty darned good!

Weather is near perfect for tomorrow morning. I was trying to figure out how to miss some work to get out and fly tomorrow AM before it gets rainy on Thursday. I've done that a couple times where I've flown into SUW then cabbed over to Duluth. Tim

    women drivers.....

I grew up in the same world, and suffer some of the same frustrations as you do. We likely disagree to the extent that children and young adults internalize that which they see as the norm in the world around them. I do agree that we should expose them to the conflict and help them form...

Those ramp fee rip off FBOs. Maybe not.

Here is what I don't understand, and I'm willing to listen to what the explanations are: 1) Taxes of various sorts fund hundreds of thousands of miles of city, state, and federal roads as transportation infrastructure around the country. I don't pay a fee to go on County Highway 52, or...

    women drivers.....

Ed, I certainly don't think you are trying to censor anyone, and I don't think anyone was overly dramatic when they criticized the joke. We may disagree though on this: I think people continue to (declining with age) absorb information to understand societal norms their whole life, and I...

    women drivers.....

Ed, I think you hit upon something. I don't think eman had any ill will intended, and that comes clear with some of the responses in this thread - some people can't even comprehend that there is anything wrong with making a joke about women drivers in public. It's a simple, stereotypical joke...

    women drivers.....

That's funny. You ignore the fact that language has meaning and the pervasive use of demeaning constructs has an effect (affect? - I can never remember) on humans perception of the world around them (and more importantly their place within it). But then to double down and complain about...

Cape May, NJ, stupid pilot tricks

That's interesting. I would think that you'd want the cowling in place to direct the airflow most efficiently over the areas that need cooling (cylinder fins). The banner tow near here uses a Pawnee with cowling in place. I can see that low speed/high AOA/high power could be a flight regime...

    Engine out thought

Steingar, Unless you are saying that you are touching down in your Mooney at a higher-than-normal speed, you still have to transition through that speed of lower control authority as float down the runway at 2ft AGL. Why not just fly the appropriate approach speed, you can still fly it in a...

    Engine out thought

I went back and read through your posts again. If there is a gust factor, I understand why you'd carry extra speed. If there is no gust factor, I don't see the benefit in carrying extra speed just to float down the runway in ground effect. Tim

    Engine out thought

Because it doesn't gain you anything except a longer float down the runway. Tim

    Considering VFR Commercial

Not Correct. Copy/Paste below from SSA website: In 2009, then-SSA Chairman Phil Umphres wrote to the FAA Office of Chief Counsel requesting a formal legal interpretation of the rules governing glider towing operations. Specifically, SSA requested that the FAA advise whether Private...

    Utility Category - Cessna 172

Sure, 1975(ish) M model, 200lb pilot, 150lb front seat passenger, 10lbs of junk in the baggage area, 3 hours of fuel and still well within utility. Tim

How did the "compression" number of cylinder 3 compare to the others? If it was lower, could it not be a leaking exhaust valve? If the exhaust valve is leaking, it can allow still-burning mixture into the pipe and drive the EGT value up. Tim

    Bye bye

Yep. Though Id prefer that it doesn't have a place here, I'll ignore the juvenile behavior, political rantings, etc. It seems that the current mix of participants enjoys that. But the way that comment read made light of violence towards women. I'm a father of two girls, a husband, a...

    Bye bye

DenverPilot, In 10 years here, I've posted a handful of times per year but only once have clicked the "report" button. Last week. It was when someone made the comment that In a picture of a helicopter with a young lady, that it looked like someone had altered her appearance... with a rake...
