    True.. It just looks likes the pattern left after a bore bar.

    I'm not sure what we are looking at, but this pattern is more like a poor bore job. typically cylinders are honed with a stone, but automotive bores use tool bits that leave tool marks very much this.

    All that would create is low manifold pressure. That occurs every time the throttle is closed. not likely cause any damage.

    Simple, the engine wasn't broke in correctly. or the rings are upside down.

    I would question how you determined it was 1 degree off.

    Simply use the degree indicator on the engine, use the manual to find it. 0-200 /0-300 it is on the crank flange. Lycoming it is on the flywheel.

    I'm wondering how many engines are running 10 degrees off. As long as the valve timing was correct, it didn't make any difference. we always retarded to start 25 degrees, anyway.

I did a lot fishing on the west side of Whidbey Is. about 6:00 AM I was behind Jimmy Flowers when his boat engine quit, they found the engine compartment was flooded, they didn't have very much until the boat went down by the stern, Jimmy was less than 50 yards off...

    I'd try for a logged off area, and hope for little trees, at least the bears will clean up.

    A story --- Orcus Island taking off to the north the piper 28- ? the engine quit, 4 aboard to teenagers two adults all 4 got out, the kids made it 2 adults didn't. They were less than 50 yards off shore.
