    Pilot Identity Theft, fraud alert.

A LOT of the top avionics shops will act as a "middle man" or escrow type service. Accepting the unit and ONLY telling you to pass payment if everything works ... worth the extra insurance in today's environment ...

Lost GPS While on RNAV Approach in IMC

We get a lot of "GPS Outage NOTAMS" in my area that are not assigned to a specific field and can be a pain checking. Luckily a 273* heading westbound and 93* heading eastbound will basically make a line between El Paso-Austin. The VORs are also a little unreliable out here ...

Student pilot hazing aka nav log

When they return without the "steam" ... tell them, well get me the left handed screw driver then so we can wrap this up:p

    Preflight Briefing

I call after checking online for an abbreviated briefing usually for late add on TFR's or sometimes if weather is difficult on the long cross country flights. Have had two occasions where a TFR occurred that was not in the 1800wxbrief.com ... I asked and the briefer indicated it was brand new ...

California to Carolina - Part 3: Starting back West

Both ... Wayne always seems to have some tidbit of info. especially in the operation of Foreflight that I end up using as well. I'm ok with some of the others, but as an example, the start of Aviation 101's intros are real long (I watch 101's as he is related to my best friend but I wish he'd...

California to Carolina - Part 3: Starting back West

I watch several aviation theme videos, but I like Wayne's method the best.

How do you denounce your medical to switch to basic med

How do you denounce your medical to switch to basic med? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click your heels three times and say,"I denounce thee, I denounce thee, I denounce thee ..." pretty simple eh:confused::p

    Well, this looks like fun...

All this complaining ... not one of you has been thankful that the Disney TFRs have kept you safe  ... maybe that should be PFR for Permanent flight restriction :(

    Daily Pic

Had an employee whose mother was a test driver I believe at that track. Said hardest part was that they sometimes wanted non-stop high speed driving without a bathroom break (fuel tanks were oversized I guess) ... said her longest was 8 hours ...

Familiar story, turns base after straight in calls 3 mile final.

I agree with you, but I also encourage you all to take a hand held and watch your field's landing pattern and you'll find that most pilots say "turning base" well after they already made the turn ... we have a ton of student at our field and they ALL make that call "turning base" after they have...

    Durango

I stop by there once or twice a year from Texas. The train is a "must do" ... there are several old hotels worth staying in. Don't go on a holiday as the bikers are there and the prices go up. You can land at 00C which is closer to town, but you'll need a ride in or at KDRO a little farther...

I just paid $700 for a tire change

Not normal. The mechanic at my field moved on and the shop was sold twice. Had 2 occasions where the mechanics did horrible work, but the manager waived the charge (as I had to go to another shop). Upon leaving, one indicated I needed a new engine for a "case crack" ... I shot pictures and...

    Towers snitching on aborted take-offs?

What a total waste of time for the controllers. We did so many simulated aborted takeoffs, I guess now the students won't get that ... we also had engine out right after rotation and land on the next runway over (see KLRU which is non-towered) ...

CFI and student die in crash SMO

Very sad story ... and a new appreciation for that CFI saying," What is my student going to try and kill me with today?".

    This crash will have consequences.

Shep ... you all need to arrange a fly in with the magenta track directly over that town. We did a Fly for Breast cancer awareness event last year and the "lead" for our 40 plane conga line (not allowed to fly formation according to FAA) took us directly over a neighborhood like the one you...

    C152, 106*, 4600’, 2 occupants, gusty conditions

We trained like that here in EL Paso years ago. CFIs scheduled new students early, and the more seasoned almost ready to PPL students ALWAYS got the 1-4 pm slots for crosswind, massive thermal and DA summer training/exposure out here. They also loved calling for a go-around after getting one...

    Coddled college kids

Lucky kid getting that car and a ton of furniture. I paid my own way ... first for welding, then a high pressure add-on and was scheduled starting dive training and under water welding when the 1981 recession kicked in full and I was in the last group laid off. I then was competing against...

    1975 Cessna 172M - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Calling all A&P Types

My previous Tiger had an oil temp sensor fail and after replacement I was deep into the RED at exactly 19 minutes on every flight. The first A&P checked vernatherm, flushed oil cooler, checked baffles etc. and essentially gave up. Went to another A&P at a nearby field. He told me to call...
