    Zuckerberg Obtains Student Pilot Certificate

I thought student pilot certificate and medical class 3 were the same? Reason I ask is I thought I read something years ago in an article that would be disqualifying ... can't remember, but I thought it was a possible vision/pupil issue.

    VFR flight plan - why?

You can setup an account with WxBrief and do it via your phone. About 10 years ago they wouldn't close the flight plan in the air (VFR FP) requiring me to close after landing at the destination (mountan area). Return trip next day as I was calling to activate the return, person on line...

Student Loans are out of control

Imagine the other thread with the guy that wants to fly commercial, is at 100 hours and his CFI won't solo him? If they have a loan like this, they're toast ...

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

We have high student activity at our field, they're all Cessna 172's with a cute little Blue stripe that you MIGHT see a split second before impact ... or in short, everyone is a "white Cessna" around here except us older pilots flying a Tiger, RV, etc. Our field used to be Santa Teresa years...

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

Those calls don't bother me as much as the guys that NEED more radio practice, take 2 minutes to give a position report with a lot of "Uh's" followed normally by a stuck mic:mad:

    4 July 2023 - Grumman AA5 Tiger HSV / HUA - Huntsville AL (successfull engine-out landing)

Didn't click any links or listen to ATC.net ... if the pilot got it on the ground successfully, that's all that counts. Insurance bought that aircraft as soon as it started acting up. Messing around head down on Foreflight instead of "heads up" for a suitable landing site doesn't sound like...

Big Rant. 100 Hours in and no solo. Need any advice.

100 Hours in ... that's a lot of funds ... your instructor doesn't like your emergency procedures and basic airmanship-control over the runway (holding center line) ... after 100 hours, this shouldn't be an issue ...in his head, he still has to worry about you in cross-wind landings and near...

    Callout Fee

Self serve in my dictionary means "I don't need your assistance pumping fuel" and if there are no "limited hours of operation" I'd expect to be able to land at will, fuel and be on my way ... if you throw a lock on the pump to trap people into a fee, that's just wrong. At my field, call out...

    Well, this is annoying

Yawn ... come to west El Paso ... CBP flies day and night non-stop ... not sure why, all the illegals get to cross over anyway before they head to where ya' all live:eek::confused:

Highest cruise altitude in an AA5?

Had one for years ... did great 8500-10500. Most of my flying time in the Tiger involved LONG XC ... that 52 gallons capacity helped tremendously.

KTCC (Tucumcari) to KABQ (Albuquerque) Routing Help

If you want to experience clear air turbulence (CAT), you'll be in the correct area :confused:;) ABQ has had some sinkers on short final so strong that even full power during landing failed ... there are several old NTSB reports, but not sure if they're still available.

    Full Rich for landing?

True ... I lean to stumble and then enrichen slightly entering the pattern ... it works at my airport in west Texas (4100 AGL) as well as when I've been to Telluride Colorado. Doing that with that extra twist or two after stumble will be enough for a potential go-around. Leaning during taxi at...

Why I did not buy two new cell phones today...

I've been with V a long time ... 50:50 as far as service. Warning to those thinking of buying V service/phone: their stores look the same, but some are "corporate" and some are "franchise" ... if there's a MAJOR issue and you setup through franchise, you're basically screwed as corporate will...

gear up landing v tail in woodlake ca

I know a doctor that made contact with the runway and did a go around with some pretty significant damage ... not sure why someone would think going around in that situation is going to improve anything ... all he got out of it was seeing how Q-tip props operate.

    Kidney stone

That rarely happens ... as in 1%. At my facility, as we're high risk, we call them in if they want to see "live" images. When I started 40 years ago, sonographers cross trained after graduation for a year to two to get exposed to all the things they don't get in school ... that no longer...
