    Medical Denied, Need advise

Then people in positions like yours need to "man up" (no offense) and call out the absurdity that we will EVER have a 100% success rate for ANYTHING. As I've said at least 5 times now, my primary grudge is with the logistical process, not the scrutiny itself. I'm thankful that specialists of...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Other than the Jacoby incident, which I'm still not clear on what actually caused the accident (failed instruments in hard IFR or headache medication), your points are geared towards commercial ATP concerns. Valid. However, to treat the recreational, sports pilots, private pilot in the same...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Agreed! Much of this is an issue of the FAA's own making in regard to mental health items; which is my "crusade." FAA: "It's not like we've had the ability to transmit data via facsimile for 50 years and email for 20, but hey(!!), let's keep sending information back and forth via snail mail...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

I'm not sure I follow the "culture and attitudes" comment, but the sheer numbers of pilots would certainly, one with any common sense would think, cause the FAA to reevaluate how they process the ever increasing % of applications they receive each year, with an increasing % of required deferrals...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Seems many on this forum that don't find themselves on my end (deferral/decline 18 month waiting time to get decline decision - reconsideration after more evaluations, reports, $ and another 12-18 months waiting) don't think there's an issue with the FAA. Many of the responses to my raised...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Exactly! I posted this on another forum, better suited here. Every specialist/observer or otherwise outside of the FAA realizes the existing practices for certain deferrals are completely nonsensical. For whatever reason, the FAA, and some people on this forum, are the last to acknowledge...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Kind of like how the existing FAA practices for evaluating certain diagnoses is "career ending" for many commercial pilots...ironic. Of course, no need to Google, I watched the entire hearing...she's an idiot and a liar and deserved to lose her job.

    Medical Denied, Need advise

I don't understand the reference to the Jacoby accident...it looks like he lied on his application about meds for headaches. Also says his attitude indicator failed 90 seconds into flight in hard IFR conditions and was an ex Israeli Air Force Pilot...what are we suggesting here by the post?

    Medical Denied, Need advise

It would be interesting to know the % of people in medical issuance decision making positions that aren't able to fly themselves due to disqualifications...

SSRI: Do we have a path?

Really good report on Committee formed to evaluate existing FAA practices regarding mental health and the issues it's inharently creating in the pilot/controller community. I'm encouraged that the report has come to the same conclusion as me, the laymen, and recommending the same changes to the...

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

Not that anyone cares, but I'm actively addressing these items with the 4 main senators involved in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, here's what I sent the senators: Dear Senator ...., I would like to first thank you for your efforts in passing the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 (The...

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

Understood on that front, but that's the least efficient means for change. Congress recently passed the Reauthorization Bill, which includes (I've cut and pasted/redacted certain bullets): Full Text Link: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/3935/text SEC. 411. AEROMEDICAL...

That's not really constructive, but okay.

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

The fact that's an honest response, and I believe meant to be honest, is my point. The FAA doesn't care, there's zero accountability or motivation for them to change unless we all speak up. It may not get me "there any faster," I'm resolved to that and working the existing process. I'm more...

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

How is any of this acceptable? The FAA knows this is an existing issue and one that will only worsen if the existing practices are maintained. Direct quotes from the 2024 FAA Budget submission: "Over time, our stakeholder base has changed. An aging general aviation pilot population has led to...

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

Don't all SSRI cases include/require the Psych/Neuro eval or case by case? If the initial SSRI deferral results in a denial upon review and FAS saying it's a dual diagnoses (alcohol abuse/dependence), would you expect the next round to go quicker? I.e. if the SSRI use is stable/no concerns from...

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

I got that request then denial letter, but same letter said upon additional info, evals, etc they would reconsider. My evals all said the same thing. I.e. they said “I don’t see any reason for you not to get your SI medical.” Obviously I was shocked and disheartened that the D.C. folks...

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

My HIMS deferral took 15 months from start to denial. They will reconsider SI again after more evals and additional info. It’s a long haul and so unnecessarily inefficient.

What does "Final Review" actually mean?

Mine was in "Final Review" for 2 months only to get a denial letter. I'd call once a week to the D.C. office...the last 1.5 weeks it was done but not signed and because it wasn't "official" they wouldn't tell me anything. The medexpress website is a joke.
