Fatal Crash XLL 9/28/2022 - CFI McPherson charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

Yes, grounded after 2 accidents and a safety complaint…and given a temporary airman certificate even after he’s already failed a check ride. Good work FAA! My point is this indiviudual WAS allowed to fly, after multiple incidences, and even after failing a checkride…albeit even if only for a 30...

I think you’ve missed the boat on this one. He’s referring to my (OP’s) situation.

Fatal Crash XLL 9/28/2022 - CFI McPherson charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

What does that have to do with the FAA allowing this pilot to stay in the air, sir? If you’re not a tad concerned that there are FAA “endorsed” instructors or pilots that have been able to get their commercial and instrument ratings yet can’t properly conduct a go around, I don’t know how to...

Fatal Crash XLL 9/28/2022 - CFI McPherson charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

After which accident? The first, second or the final one after he got a student killed? Or after the safety complaint made to the FAA after the 2nd accident and before the accident killing the student? And no,the FAA didn’t take away his pilots license, he surrendered it. The same day the FAA...

Fatal Crash XLL 9/28/2022 - CFI McPherson charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

This is maddening that the FAA allowed this pilot to stay in the air, didn’t outright pull his license sooner, after multple incidences, yet I’ll be grounded (and many others in my situation) between 18-36 months due to medical deferral status for SSRI use. This is after already accumulating...

Part 121 Guy w/ Adjustment Disorder

Good for you for getting the help you needed! I think that’s the sad state pilots find themselves due to the FAA’s overly aggressive, assume worst case for every situation stance to mental health. It’s a poorly addressed solution to the issue when it puts pilots in a position to weight getting...

Letter to FAA Regarding Alcohol Use

You’re telling me it took you 5 years to get your SI medical?

Peripheral Edema - is it disqualifying?

Well, I didn’t hijack this one! I think the lesson here, “Askies329,” is print out the application(s) and FAA requests and go over them with a qaulified AME (of which B Chien and GoFlightMed are) then decide the risk/reward of the various piloting privelages available to you. You need...

    Childhood ADHD

If you don’t plan on doing this as a career/for compensation, I agree with Capt. Geoffrey Thorpe. You can get your sports pilot license, gain hours and experience in some very capable aircraft, then move into more complex/faster aircraft once MOSAIC is enacted. The perfomance of some of those...

Letter to FAA Regarding Alcohol Use

Thanks! These details were not included in the FAA correspondence, but that’s basically what I put into the letter, if not in that exact format. Since my HIMS AME said “we should have this completed before the end of the year…” I assume that just means his and my part correct?

Letter to FAA Regarding Alcohol Use

I was surprised that sending things in piecemeal was suggested. Would have figured all items at single time from the HIMS AME. I was encouraged to hear my HIMS AME say we should have this done prior to the end of the year. I assume that just means my part and then another 12-18 month wait on...

Letter to FAA Regarding Alcohol Use

Hello, I met with my HIMS AME today and he asked me to mail the FAA the items I have so far regarding a denial/reconsideration related to alcohol use. Does anyone have an example or suggestions on what to and not to include in the latter? He also suggested it be no longer than 1 page. ANy...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Always sad to read about accidents, but always something to learn from them as well. At first blush, no way I'd fly into that strip with any passengers/that load-out. No idea why the pilot didn't heed the owner's advice to get another 200 ft of runway, and doesn't look like the pilot used a...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Because they are inept, and unsafe pilots. Yet by the FAA's medical standards, A-ok. I'm sure you have your own list. I flew with a CFII while working on my IFR on one occasion as my standard instructor was sick, I would not fly with that particular CFII again. This was before another student...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

True. And many of those that should not be flying are flying under unrestricted class 3 medicals. The fact that every pilot I know, including CFI/CFII's, has a list of pilots they will never fly with is scary.

    Medical Denied, Need advise

Not true, if you are declined a class 3, you can no longer apply/operate under sports pilot either. That is until you go through the FAA's medical bureaucreacy to prove you're safe to do so and get issued at least a class 3.

    Medical Denied, Need advise

90% of med certificates are issued at the Dr. office by the AME. So 10% is a small amount of the overall applications needing more scrutiny. I’ve read that 90-97% of those deferred ultimately get SI and only .1% of deferrals for mental health are denied…why does this take 12-18 months to come to...

    Medical Denied, Need advise

First off, I said people in your position, NOT you (Dr. Bruce Chien). Second, I appreciate your efforts, as well as the AOPA, all the sponsors of the 2024 Reauthorization Bill and other groups that call out the laughable practices AT THE FAA LEVEL and push for changes. Those same people need...
