    New panel for a 206

No worries! Cell data connection is not at all necessary. Your iPad has WiFi and Bluetooth, so you can just download the databases to Garmin Pilot at home and then update using WiFi (via GI-275 or the Flight Stream card in a GNX-375). I don't have a G3x (although I would dearly love one...

    New panel for a 206

Pretty sure that every iPad in existence has the ability to connect to WiFi. Are you sure? Yes, Connext is standard and will be able to send real-time updates for weather, traffic, and flight plans without any upcharge. The databases are definitely an expensive upcharge, and that's where you'll...

    New panel for a 206

Not quite. the GNX-375 will provide ADS-B traffic and weather, and will send/receive flight plans to your iPad via the bluetooth Connext connection. For database updates (especially the huge basemap file, which is like 3GB) you'll need a WiFi connection if you don't want to use USB/card. That...

    New panel for a 206

Oh sure, I didn't mean to suggest that other options couldn't give you the same information, but rather that the GI-275 was able to feed a lot of updates and coordination between various avionics without the need to buy a Flight Stream 510 for the GNX-375, since it has built-in wifi capability...

I have tasted speed, and I like it

I'm waiting for an astronaut to show up and say that they've hit mach 8 during a launch. Haha!

    New panel for a 206

Lots of great responses above. For what it's worth, I suggest that getting a G5 instead of a GI-275 may be a false economy. My aircraft has a couple of GI-275s as well as a GNX-375 and GNC-215. It turns out that the GI-275 is the brains of the operation. My iPad connects to that and everything...

CENTCOM CC gots some splainin' to do

Exactly. If someone needed shoving, the aide should have anticipated that and already be in the wide-brace position. "Johnson! Get up here and shove this person for me. Roughly and with vim!"

    So I bought a C182 - what now?

Dude, there is nothing wrong with that paint. Agree with above commenters that you should throw your money at more meaningful upgrades AFTER you have flown it for 50-100 hours AND have completed your first annual (which may be a considerable expense). Nice bird! Congratulations!

Is it normal for a student pilot to feel sad like this?

Landings are for pilots like shots are for golf players. You're always chasing the perfect one, and sometimes you get oh-so-close, only to wildly screw up the next one. I had a landing the other day that was so smooth I almost couldn't tell the wheels had started rolling. The next day I had a...

I have tasted speed, and I like it

The fastest I have ever been in a plane is Mach 1.2, but it was a grey pointy plane that I didn't own. My Cherokee was rocking 160kts groundspeed with a nice 50kt tailwind on my coast-to-coast. Made me very happy. Cherokee is stronk! Stronk like tank. Flies fast on chocolate bar wing!

    Recommended overhaul shops?

The engine was pulled in June 2023 and was on the dyno in January 2024. As I recall, it was delivered in early February.

    Recommended overhaul shops?

I had my Lycoming O-360 (A4A) overhauled by LyCon. 25k basic overhaul cost. Various available optional witchcraft will take it to $33k. I opted for maximum witchcraft and my engine dynos at 202HP. They do good work and their reputation keeps them busy. It took 8 months for the overhaul to be...

    Hangar Monthly Rent

I had a lovely T-hangar at KVIS in California for $300/mo which I miss dearly. Also had a shade-hangar at KHJO for $85/mo which I wish was an option at more airports to keep off sun, hail, and snow. When I got assigned to the Virginia area, I started looking around. Everywhere has at least a...

    O-300 Advice

I'm definitely of the thought that you should run it until something changes, rather than spend a bunch of money (and assume the risk inherent with major maintenance) on an engine that seems to be working perfectly well. I got forced into an overhaul due to a camshaft issue. I went with LyCon...

    Advice for loooooong cross-country

And we're off! After a couple of days of troubleshooting new avionics and flying around randomly trying to get at least an initial engine break-in done, I'm heading out this morning. More once I'm not on a phone. I'll try to take photos. Really appreciate everyone's advice. N9551J if you...

    Helene relief flights

One of the major aspects of a coordinated emergency response is people volunteering or otherwise freelancing. On the one hand, it's an amazing resource and--properly managed--such volunteers can really help with logistics, manpower, and expertise. On the other hand, you can have people showing...

Flight simmers - help me understand the market for super-realistic airplane models

MSFS is tough to use just on a whim, especially if you have yokes and stuff to set up. If you haven't played in a while, there's usually some giant update as well and by the time you get it all set up, you've been messing around for an hour without any flying happening! I have found a few...
