For me Christmas is starting to feel like Groundhog Day

what I wrote was about me, yes. About how I experience it. If you actually read what I write, I’m not being selfish and ruining anything. But the constant gimmicky, slick, bad songs that are on the radio all the time now, for me as a musician that loves music, get to me. I also wrote that I...

For me Christmas is starting to feel like Groundhog Day

God Jul (pronounced “goo” “Yule”) I’ve actually really nailed down the biggest source of my scroogeness. The Ritual, it’s ok, watching exactly this or that program and cartoon, a Xmas program on the national channel (like I said, like right out of the fifties, how to cook Xmas dinner, and corny...

How much longer to fix the 737 Max

I know you were. Just now they also has a “software problem” with their aerospace unit as well with a “rocket” that didn’t activate a timer at a critical point (I haven’t read through the whole thread to see if this is mentioned now, it was reported as I saw it today)... I have a suspicion that...

If you're in the Southwest US and haven't flown the Baja... you're missing out BIGTIME!

oh no, you can’t get off that easy, what was the “other story” about the plane? Also, really? A week in jail for an emergency operation? I think I speak for many in wanting to hear more. Also I didn’t really understand that last bit about KELP and not accepting detours? If you were in the...

    Can I enter Class C...?

Thanks, but still not clear. Had to look up PAO, and seems to be government owned aircraft??? My limited experience is we fly under the class C airspace so far (its at 2500’, we fly 2200’) is with the class C are that is also a designated airworks. We contact approach, “request airworks...

    magnetic compass.. for car?

On the other hand, if you catch us putting up a deviation card on the dashboard, then we are fair game.

For me Christmas is starting to feel like Groundhog Day

Definitely , the grandkids for me is the saving grace. They are great. But, and this is the trend, we go overboard with presents every year. This isn’t one of those “in my day” things, but..in my day :) I got five or six presents maybe, one or two really good ones. One year I got a marionette...

    Life-Changing Bands (or Songs)

For me, it’s always been Dark Side of the Moon. I was a teen when it came out, and from the start, first listen I was just taken by it. Early on got to hear it on a really high end stereo, but it sounds fantastic even on a transistor radio. I mean, other than the music, the amazing Clare Tory...

For me Christmas is starting to feel like Groundhog Day

As most of us, I loved Christmas as a kid. Not just the excitement of anticipating presents, but the whole thing, Bing Crosby singing about white Christmas, little drummer boy, etc. favorite thing of all was mom, dad, and I would take the car around neighborhoods and look at the different...

    magnetic compass.. for car?

As a young man in northern Chicago we have an interstate (not sure, I seem to recall it was I-95, but whatever it was) that is designated East-West, but in northern Il actually runs North-south until it straightens out again. There were a few times in an unfamiliar area, knew I wanted to go...

    Can I enter Class C...?

A good deal of confusion in this thread. Would just ask, say you are coming up on a Class C airspace, you are not on FF, you look up the approach frequency, call them and then? If “clearance” is not needed, assume you report position, altitude, heading, and mention your distance to class C. How...

    Mountain and canyon flying

Thanks, was the no wind a factor in deciding? Not talking about high winds of course, but would you do the same trip if there were say 4-5 knots? Even with no wind too, are there thermals coming from difference between canyon sides, one in the sun and the other not? I think one has to be, as...

    American (Airlines) Experience

Maybe it would be nice if they kept track of travelers that already have been through the wringer and put them on priority list if further delays in the same trip. Just a pipe dream.

What do you check when short turnaround flights?

On our club checklist we have asterisks beside the point that are designated DI (Daily Inspection), and these are just a few points like check lights, Flap operation, main switch, avionics main, avionics cooling fan. Other than that all other points done before each flight. I should check the POH.

    Mountain and canyon flying

Beautiful. Was wondering, was there any wind, up and downdrafts? Also, can the AOA indicator ever give erroneous readings? Also, did you say you don’t pull back on the stick in canyon turns? About how much altitude do you lose? Your videos are very inspiring!

God Help Me, I'm Starting to Get a Craving for Taco Bell

after living in Norway for almost three decades with no Taco Bell’s, or jack in the boxes, I found myself about two months ago craving something I couldn’t quite understand what it even was. I now realize it was, I think, jack in the box tacos, as I recall they had a REALLY greasy taco shell and...

    magnetic compass.. for car?

I didn’t see your post yet when I posted. What is it with grandfathers and these ball compasses? My grandpa was up in Superior, Wisconsin. Where was yours from? (Was this a regional or national thing?) and why didn’t my dad, who actually was a pilot feel the need for one? Maybe because it was...

    magnetic compass.. for car?

Heh...this is funny. I bought one recently on Amazon. I wanted one similar to the ones we use in the plane. I also clearly recall my grandfather had one in his car (my dad was a pilot but grandpa wasn’t, he just liked having a compass) that fascinated me as a child, and also seemed really lame...

What do you check when short turnaround flights?

Oops. Damn, you guys are unforgiving :-), both of you! I’m thinking when the day comes, I’ve got a lot of good points here to consider. Also, you have to log each leg in the log don’t you? Each leg would definitely require engine shutdown, to let the passengers out (all ten of them) and I am...

What do you check when short turnaround flights?
