Just to mention, I’m very happy with the Saitek. I am not sure about what is meant with power adapter, it is usb based with a hub. The price difference, it is by far least expensive, bought from a reputable store would not be risky. I couldn’t justify more money for yoke, and it is miles ahead...

    (Incorrect) observation of aircraft height

I wonder if there is some way to judge it more accurately, some technique. I know with felling trees, I often use the trick of (on level ground) getting to where my arm at a 45 deg angle points at the treetop, which then means the top will end up right where I’m standing. But trees don’t...

    Wearing shoes in the house

It didn’t take long after moving to Norway to get used to virtually everybody here takes off shoes when entering a house, even for open house for house sales (they do offer the blue shoe covers also), gyms (at the door), etc. I pretty quickly grew to like it and learned to throw away socks with...

    Desktop Simulator Recommendations

Just my own experiences if it helps. I had some of the same issues. There is an x-plane forum (easy to find by google) that is worth joining. Also can search for procedures online for tuning. Basically it breaks down one side of settings mainly involves the graphics card the other the CPU. ONE...

    Engine out practice

I’m only guessing here but since when the SHTF the pilots mindset might be a deciding factor? Better to be somewhat familiar with how the plane handles, what you have to do than starting from scratch? And the alternative is just to give up. Just because training for it isn’t perfectly the same...

    Airline Pilots and Security

I think it is a strange decision to try and prevent all weapons, bombs, etc. at some point mid airport, and then lock the general public into an airplane, with only flight crew. Can’t think of many other places where this is a case, no dedicated security personnel, and crew has to handle any bad...

    Flying Friends???

I think this is an excellent point. I already mentioned if it were me I’d ask my parents what the concern was, just to know, and still think that might be a good idea but also it may be too that your parents don’t want to alienate friends or other parents. A lot of parents would be very...

    Flying Friends???

Wow. That is great you have your PPL already! I wish I had done that at your age! I don’t have any great advice, but it struck me that you are having to guess at why your parents don’t want you to have friends as passengers. Why not ask them respectfully, so at least you are sure of their...

Retirement: inside or outside the USA?

...and you are a really charming person. Goodie for you.

Retirement: inside or outside the USA?

I don’t think I would lose SS payments. At least as far as I understand it. I worked and paid in my whole working life in the US, and continued working in Norway. That isn’t negated if I’m not a citizen. So I think you are off the mark. And “treated unfairly” wasn’t the issue. I was pointing out...

Tromsø and other airports north Norway pressure too low to fly

I’m not sure about VFR. But thinking since an altimeter is required it would have to functional?

Retirement: inside or outside the USA?

I’m nearing retirement and have been living in Norway for decades. One thing to consider, the fluctuating exchange rates will I think play into it. The Norwegian kroner goes up and down against the dollar and I assume my retirement soc. security payments will be in USD. I don’t know yet how they...

Tromsø and other airports north Norway pressure too low to fly

Safely :) Air pressure at Tromso down to 945 mb, and wideroe and other airlines can’t set the kollsman window that low so grounded. Not sure it is the lowest, off the west coast and up north experiencing floods and record low pressure. The news reported they can’t “land” when the altimeter is...

    Kirk Douglas rides west

He was really great too in “Lonely are the Brave”. For that time period too, the bar fight with the one armed man was brutal. His character in that film was really something.

    Friend died in plane

Condolences. Very sad to hear that. I had the thought with Kobe, understand it but, that all of these occurrences are equally a loss. A celebrity death gets treated as a larger event but it isn’t, all loss of life is a loss..equally. Sorry for your loss.

    Question about fuel credit policies/expectations

Would it be an idea to visit of call up other (county operated if that seems to make a difference) and just ask them what they do? Maybe also if they’ve had any problems?

Anyone adjust their basic flying because of nervous passengers?

I’m thinking you had to explain that even though the prop is spinning, it really is spinning in the same way it would if engine stopped. Otherwise they don’t think it REALLY is like engine out.

Anyone adjust their basic flying because of nervous passengers?

Also, just so I’m clear, pretend faking heart attacks, blackout is probably not the best idea then?

Anyone adjust their basic flying because of nervous passengers?

I was mainly wondering, and got some good answers, about things like attitude in climb out, turns, as specific strategy to make it less scary. Mainly because pilots get used to the pitch on climb out, maybe forget how it looks and feels to a first timer. And what we think of as not very steep...

Anyone adjust their basic flying because of nervous passengers?

Was wondering. If you have a passenger who is very nervous about flying, do you adjust your flying to make it gentler? Was thinking we usually climb out at either Vx or Vy, or a combination depending on terrain. But even Vy to someone who is older, never been in a small plane, or just nervous...
