Does head on traffic shake you up

Me either.. A couple weeks ago, I was flying and started getting ADS-B traffic on my tablet so someone around me must have been broadcasting out. My heading is 355, ground track is 360, at 4500 feet. Another target pops up 10 miles straight north of my position, ground track looked about 180...

Panel upgrading - Really, how bad?

I was just a little under 12 grand last year for a used Garmin 480, Garmin 340 audio panel, King 206 VOR/GS, heated pitot, GPS antennas, + install.

    Maybe a tad overpriced?

Would be interesting for me at 39,000.. The 150hp engines have an STC (sticker) available for auto fuel so it wouldn't be so bad to feed.

    Flying into Airventure 2016

I liked the part about lying about a family emergency to get out before the airport shut down for the air show.. Real classy.

Taxi from GRB to the greyhound bus terminal, bus to OSH. Looks like they have a bus leaving Green Bay at 3:20 tomorrow and the drop off point in Oshkosh is at Wittman field.

    Parking question..

steingar - Thanks, that was the info I was looking for. rolivi - I've read the notam and know nobody is flying in during the show. Part of vintage parking is closed to all access during the afternoon airshow this year. If you left your chicken tendies in a cooler by your plane parked in that...

    Parking question..

So I've always driven to the EAA (the appropriate name for this event ;)), thinking of flying in for the day on Saturday and parking in Vintage. How does the daily parking work, do they marshal you in the general area and you pick whatever spot you want or do they tell you exactly where to...

    [NA] UPS fail [NA]

Talk to the store or company that has the UPS account you shipped with to get in touch with their UPS rep, they should be able to do something. Their general customer service says no to everything but the account reps have more pull.

    Instrument departure/approaches without radar service

Passed the oral in the AM, failed the flight in the PM. Should've listened to the examiner's advice to reschedule the flight portion due to weather, but I sat around all day and waited for it to break up. Finally got up in the air around 3 in the afternoon and my brain went full retard on a...

Is this panel alright for instrument rating?

Sure. I'm doing it with the same panel layout. Makes for an odd scan, but you get used to it.

    Instrument departure/approaches without radar service

And the answer in case anyone was still wondering.. The best way to describe it would be a large class D with some position reporting. IFR traffic above 3000 was being handled by Minneapolis Center (and maybe approach? I'm not sure) using radar from Minneapolis. Everything below that was VFR...

    Instrument departure/approaches without radar service

Guess I better bring an extra watch along tomorrow.. Supposed to take my instrument checkride out of GRB in the morning. I'm taking my cherokee to GRB tonight to beat out a line of early morning thunderstorms at are forecast to go through and then leave a 3500' ceiling after.

    Instrument departure/approaches without radar service

So here's an interesting one. Class C airport (KGRB) has the following notam: !GRB 05/246 (KGRB A1642/16) GRB SVC TAR/SSR OUT OF SERVICE DLY 1300-2200 1606011300-1606032200 So if I'm reading it correctly, tomorrow through Friday they won't have radar when the tower is open. How would...

Best career to justify owning your own plane?

A local funeral home roughly 10 years ago bought a flashy 35' or 40' long cigarette boat and advertised they were able to "scatter your ashes at sea".. I'd imagine they could do something similar for an aerial burial.

Height / age requirement for right seat PAX?

I've taken my 3 (almost 4) year old with me a few times in the front seat. She likes it a lot better than the back, and with the seat fully back and her car seat in the front she can't really reach anything. She can just barely touch the yoke with her toes, but I've been telling her every time...
