Things I learned at my first Airventure

I stayed at FDL for two nights... admittedly not my first choice... BUT, people were nice, the showers were meh, the bus ride to OSH was uneventful and comfortable, and, as an exit airport to home, it is unbeatable. I took off at 5:40 AM on Friday, first to depart without anyone near the...

    Oshkosh - 2019

First, thank you to all the fine people on this site for answering my questions about flying to OSH, I am grateful. And I put your answers and advice to good use. For me, 96% of the OSH 2019 goal was the flight there and back. I made it, the plane flew perfectly and I learned a ton. The wind...

    Partnership dispute. Legal advice

As my late father in law, the lawyer taught me, "Documents don't enforce themselves, people do"... In other words, paper everything, but perform heavy due diligence on your partners.

    Oshkosh - 2019

So, here I am in a hotel 65 miles away from OSH it is 2:39 pm and OSH plane camping is closed (full) with the next update at 6. I will launch and if it’s still closed, i’ll go to Fon D L... and camp there and bus it in... excellent flight from CT today... Chicago skyline is awesome. Fly safely all

    Oshkosh - 2019

That is exactly what I needed thank you GRG... all good. I had the "Tundra Tires" attached, I could have gotten in today... basically a Cherokee 6 tire size on a Light Sport...

    Oshkosh - 2019

A couple of quick questions please, I figured I wouldn't get anyone at EAA to answer since they seem to be bailing out... I feel badly for all involved, but at least it happened before rather than during. The EAA site isn't clear about one item in aircraft camping... the site says: "All...

    Oshkosh or bust...trip planning

I figured if I arrived OSH on Monday or Tuesday... there wouldn't be any plane camp spaces left.

    Oshkosh or bust...trip planning

My plan A was to leave tomorrow (Friday), not looking good weather wise. Then Plan B was last Tuesday. Now, it looks like Wednesday for Thursday arrival (Plan C). I hope there is room in the Airplane Campground on Thursday... There is always Fon du Lac.

    Cessna 150 Rotax Conversion

There will be an excellent sampling of high HEAT ops this week in the mad rush to OSH beginning today through Saturday. Hopefully some Rotax people report their experiences idling on the ground in Illinois at 98 degs... or waiting at OSH for their campsite assignment. Not to stir the pot any...

    Cessna 150 Rotax Conversion

There are a bunch of strings like this on many aviation forums, both for and against Rotax. I bought a Rotax-engine'd plane 8 months ago. Regarding noise... it is noisy especially when sitting inside a carbon fiber snare drum (CTLSi). However, it isn't noisier as any 172 or 152 I used to fly...

    Oshkosh or bust...trip planning

Great advice all... thank you. Just got the plane out of annual in record time thanks to the Flight Design crew in Woodstock CT. I am conservative by nature so no weather heroics for me. Weather looks tough here in CT Weds and Thurs and iffy Friday AM. I may leave tomorrow and just take my...

    Oshkosh or bust...trip planning

This will be my first time flying to OSH, and my first time flying beyond 340 miles, so big trip. The Weather thing is my big concern. A Commercial pilot pal offered to review my Flight Plan with a focus on the weather, and, (this was his suggestion) to review weather ahead of me as I was...

    Oshkosh or bust...trip planning

OSH 10 days forecast: 80's - 90 max during the day, 60's - 70 at night, no rain, 9-10 mph wind, 60% humidity. Rain Friday AM (only). Now, I have to check the other 900 miles to the right all the way to Connecticut.

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

It was the clincher when I approached the boss with the idea of buying an airplane..; ). Reason #34 to get one.

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

I started out at 7:30 AM... it was a daytime flight. I was preparing to land at Allentown but the cloud layer turned to scattered right over Allentown so I alerted the ATC and pushed on to Connecticut.

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

I bought a Flight Design with a chute last year. I view the chute option as just that... an option. I took my first long, overnight X country last week... and as I was flying over the forested Mountains of Virginia and having to adjust my flight plan from 5,500 feet to 3,500 to get under the...

First real plane trip... surprise TFR

Ring Laser: I attached a quick vid of the takeoff from Bryce... as you can see it is a small runway but I did have dinner with someone who said he and his Dad landed a Navaho there once years ago. Again, a very cool approach. I hope the vid comes out, I am new to Youtube posting.

First real plane trip... surprise TFR

Dynon (panel) and Foreflight (iPad) both receive information (GPS +) in "real time". Weather updates are delayed by about 10-20 minutes I believe. I am a public school guy I have no idea where/how the magic happens (FIS-B???)... What is cool is working on the flight plan on the iPad at home...

First real plane trip... surprise TFR

I just read the Notam, basically the red ring of death around the real Notam is a speed limit (<230 mph).. I’ll be damned. Learned a ton on that trip. Thank you for the clarification
