Disastrous First (and Last) Annual - Advice Needed

About $40K (not including what I'll need to pay my mechanic for tearing it apart in order to let me know it would never fly again!)

Disastrous First (and Last) Annual - Advice Needed

Thanks. I agree. My focus is much more on trying to recover some of the value than spending more money chasing previous owners or mechanics.

Disastrous First (and Last) Annual - Advice Needed

I am a new plane owner (but not for long more it seems), and would really value your input. I purchased a plane five months ago doing everything I thought I should do to minimize the risk of buying a lemon. This was the plane: 1962 Piper Cherokee 160, Low-time airframe (~2700 hrs), low time...

    Student Headset

Another vote for the DC H10-13.4. I did my training in the mid 1990s and then took a ~20 year break. When I got back into flying in 2019, I fished out my DCs from the basement and, besides needing a new mic muff, they were perfect. For a second headset, I bought a brand new DC H10-76XL on...

    Turning Base

I was trained to use 45 degrees also. I use FlyQ and one feature I love is the flight tracking history. After each flight, I can check to see how my patterns were, did I correct for the wind appropriately, was the upwind on the centerline etc? I assume other EFBs have a similar feature.

    Do you grade your flights?

Great suggestion, thanks. I assume your GoPro is in the cockpit rather than attached outside to a tie-down ring for example?

    Terminating flight following

I requested FF direct to the Class D airport but didn't mention the touch and go's at that point, so I'm sure they thought the flight was ending on arrival. I only requested the T&Gs when I was handed over to the Class D tower.

    Terminating flight following

I took a cross-country flight over the weekend with flight following. I was given the squawk code and subsequent traffic advisories, and about 10 miles from my Class D destination was told to contact the tower. I contacted the tower, keeping the original squawk code, and requested touch and...

    Do you grade your flights?

My wife's ratings begin on start-up - anything but an instantaneous engine start makes her nervous!

    Do you grade your flights?

I realize that for some people a perfect flight is one where you and your plane are safely on the ground and haven't busted any regulations, and other people nit-pick every detail. I got my PPL in the mid-1990s, stopped flying for about 20 years, and just started to get back into it this year...

    1967 Piper Cherokee PA-28-140

It's an Arnav MFD 5200 display which links up with the Star 5000 GPS. The MFD 5200 did power on up to recently, but doesn't seem to now. Not sure if it's a loose wire or something else.
