    Procedure Turn Question

I am arriving from the west over RELAE for the procedure turn. When can I descend to 13,100?

    Procedure Turn Question

SNOWL is where the procedure turn begins. It is the anchor for the entry zone and maneuvering zone. The following is a segment of an IAP that has a standard PT:

    Procedure Turn Question

Pilots flew procedure turns for many, many years without DME or GPS. It's called "Rate-Time-Distance" navigation.

Standard Rate Turns without Turn Coordinator?

It's been a very long time since I last flew it. Having said that the VOR is about 1,000 feet higher than El Monte Airport. My hunch: form completion rather than flight inspection.

Standard Rate Turns without Turn Coordinator?

It is the primary IAP for the airport. Most airplanes these days would have the MAP CNF. If not, but they have DME, my recollection is that you don't lose DME until well below MDA.

Standard Rate Turns without Turn Coordinator?

Jepp shows D12.2 at the MAP. But, source doesn't support that.

Standard Rate Turns without Turn Coordinator?

DME is optional at KEMT VOR-A. Always has been this way since 1970, or do.

Handheld Radio with External Antenna from Home Question

There is nothing as good as a ground plane antenna mounted on a mast atop the roof. The antenna should be cut by a pro to the proper fraction of the optimum wave length. In the 1969-79 time-frame I lived near the foothills of the LA basin. I could hear LA County Sheriff units 40 miles away...

    Currency requirements

The difficult part of an IAP is nearing a standard DA or MDA inside clouds. Just sayin'

    Currency requirements

This is as loose as a goose: The FAA does not require the ceiling to be at MDA or DA/DH during a flight in IMC.

It's also know as The Least Cost of Being Wrong doctrine.

    Do you have references?

Cleared for “RNAV 9” …but which one Z or Y?

The controller asked which IAP he wanted. Seems to me the controller was only going to protect that missed approach. This is quite different than your example at KSAN.

Cleared for “RNAV 9” …but which one Z or Y?

You've lost me. At the OP's airport, the missed approach procedures are very different.

Cleared for “RNAV 9” …but which one Z or Y?

All three of those SAN IAPs have the same missed approach. Not so, for the OP's airport.

VDP and going missed before MAP on Non precision approach.

There was a time when the VDP was mandatory for Part 121.

VOR Accuracy for Instrument Training and Checkride

All radio navigation is great circles. That's the nature of RF. It's course, not heading.

57% of private pilots are instrument rated

Not usually unless someone sends them a copy of the death certificate. My first FBO boss is still in there. He died probably 30 years ago.

    Can Airlines Cancel IFR

During my active airline time we could cancel with 35 miles of the destination airport provided weather was severe VFR. Never did it, though.
