Santa came a couple days early

I started 6 months after Jason and my 10 has been flying almost 2 years. It’s the time and effort in hours, not the time in years. Put an hour or two in each night and just build away!

    Good luck with what?

    Here we go!!!

Incorrect, I did it because I enjoy it. I also wanted to fly something I knew in and out. I agree I could buy a ‘better’ airplane, but that would have been 3x as much. And my annuals wouldn’t be sub $500.

    Here we go!!!

Slam a 540 on the airframe. I would like to see that!

    Raptor Aircraft

The test cards start with a fuel flow test. I hope he at least read the intro parts about the use of the cards. To me that had more value than the cards themselves.

    Raptor Aircraft

Until it doesn't. I don't know what it is on his aircraft but Phase 1 on my 10 was 40 hours. That's a lot of circle the airport flights for him!

    DarkAero Aircraft

I’ve been tracking this project. Don’t even compare it to that backwoods nonsense the Raptor guy is rigging together. I’ve also viewed it as a Lancair with a few more features, made out of a different composite. I’m looking forward to seeing the performance results as well.

This really does play like a mockumentary.

I played it yesterday. Flew a carbon cub in icy weather.... game is good fun.

    Where to build

Watch this video last night. Makes me want to build a cub now... I built a majority of my 10 in my 3 car garage, essentially using 1 car slot as storage for wings. Later I moved the wings, HS and VS to my hangar and then spent the last few months of the build at the hangar bolting everything...

    Hard Landing???

That’s a blast from the past, what happened to that dude? Didn’t sell enough I suppose.....

    Hard Landing???

In his defense that's a pretty common tactic to get clicks. Literally one dude had his girlfriend washing his plane in a bikini... I generally unsub or ignore videos when they go that route. There's other sites much better suited to see naked ladies...

    Anyone Flying a Velocity V-Twin?

Saw my first Velocity in person last weekend. It was a Turbo XL retract and very nicely done with full blown interior, glass panel, built in oxygen, etc. Enjoyed talking to the builder/owner. We talked about the build process, a bit about the twin and a handful of other things. He was nice...

    Raptor Aircraft

I predicted that he would crap his pants, thus declaring an emergency having to immediately land. I look forward to the debrief and cleaning tips on his next video!

How much build help can I pay for?

How could a DAR be responsible for that? There are lots of places to high shotty work on an airplane. That's not specific to EABs either. Overhauling my old 172 I found lots of issues that could have ended in my demise if left unresolved. These weren't obvious issues like gas leaking into the...

How much build help can I pay for?

Maybe for some, if they're bad with tools. For me personally I trust my workmanship over someone who isn't going to be flying in it. I did use A&Ps to review engine installation and some other items... well A&Ps I can trust because in my time of plane ownership I've gone through some A&Ps I...
