Is There a True 6 Person + Luggage Light Twin?

While true I would feel bad for the two adults in the back seats. We have plenty of load capability but took out one of the rear seats to give the one person more room and/or more room for bags/things/furniture. The useful load can do it certainly but it just wouldn't be comfortable IMO.

    STAR vs TEC routes

I learned last week it doesn't matter what you file in that area, they're gonna give you a reroute. Even if you do file a tec route. Strange strange world up there...

    Tell me about Twins...

You sir need nose baggage. More room for things! In all seriousness we took out one seat in ours and haven't missed it. It's nice for our huge Yeti cooler and the office chair I moved. I was talking about going to Atlanta to the Delta auction and trying to get a galley cart (and removing all...

    Tell me about Twins...

We chose a 310R (non-turbo) after a lot of thought and research, and window shopping of course. I could sit here and agree and disagree with almost every post but ultimately it's a personal decision on what fits you, your mission and your budget best. We spend a lot of hours crossing the Rockies...

    Broken A/C - upgrades!

We just replaced ours last week. A 16 year old 5 ton is now replaced with a 17 SEER 5 ton. The cost sucked but you can't put a price on it when your house is 95 degrees.

    Flight Bridge?

Dudley, my FBO loves FlightBridge. We primarily use it for hotels and rental cars. When we have customer being able to send this arrival/departure info through it is very nice to know the details without wasting time on the phone (we do use a different software for tracking arrivals/departures)...

Tall pilot roll call (6'5"+), advice for a beginner

I had to pull the 6'7" guy I'm teaching out of the Pipers and put him in the 172. It's a lot better but still not the perfect situation. I told him after he gets his license he needs to buy a Mooney.

    Scheduling knowledge exam (psi)

Good luck with that. FSDO has bigger things to worry about. If the testing center is still on the old PSI software and hasn't been converted to CATs they really can't do anything. If they got converted they *can* schedule you but they're not required to. They make less than half the fee...

    Insurance companies

My broker said in the last year most companies have increased rates 10% on the low side. Fewer underwriters thus they can charge what they want. Starr is fine, I've had them before (via my broker). But you don't really know what you get with any company until you file a claim.

    Flight school

Aerogaurd is a puppy mill. Go somewhere local like Chandler Air Service or whatever is near where you’re living.

Is it a too big jump?

I don't think that 25 hours in type with 200TT will satisfy the insurance company. A former colleague of mine got one with 600TT, multi/IFR and they wanted 25 dual and 25 solo. I think you may also find yourself frustrated with learning to fly the 340 and its complexities compared to a...

    Airports on reservations

Yes there are. They are labeled like normal airports and are typically public use just like any normal airport. There are a bunch in South Dakota and Nebraska too. You wouldn't know they're on the reservation unless you looked it up.

    10 Years a Twin Pilot

With regards to training in a twin, I second training in what you either own or plan to buy. I did my initial multi in a turbo Seneca. Counter rotating props, forgiving lycoming engines and generally like flying a turbo Arrow or Dakota (not as gutless as a Seminole but nothing to write home...

    10 Years a Twin Pilot

Thanks for the write-up Ted, a pleasure to read! And as always thank you for the knowledge you share with all of us, I am one that has benefited from that and am grateful for it.

    Public airport hangar financing?

I've never built a hangar, just bought them. Airport leases can and should be negotiated. I have a 30 year lease and at the end of the term the land MAY revert to the city, it is not definitive. Along with that the lease says that I can take the building down and they just get the land that it...

Has anyone insured a complex aircraft as a student pilot?

Bought a 182RG before my husband and I finished private. Didn't even consider trying to finish up in it and finished at the flight school in a Warrior. Post private insurance was 5k/yr and we both needed 20 dual and 30 solo (or dual, to make 50 total) prior to carrying pax or each other. And...

Training, proficiency, currency, maintenance. All things twins need.

How is the twins market ?

My R model hasn't been terrible for maintenance. The biggest single expense so far has been overhualing the heater last winter (per an AD, and the fact it sucked and it gets flown in the Rockies in the winter). I think that was around $2,400. The de-ice timer crapped out this winter and ended up...
