Clearing ice from in front of hangar

Trouble with taking a pickax to ice is the real possibility of damaging the concrete/asphalt under the ice. Several years ago, we were experiencing a “polar vortex” here in NE Wisconsin and our airport was a block of ice everywhere, including the runways. It was imperative that the airport...

    Suggestions for Hangar Snow Removal

nice service. At my airport, I’m lucky if the snow gets plowed within 3 ft of the door a day or two after the storm.

    Suggestions for Hangar Snow Removal

The trouble can often be associated with what direction the hangar door faces and the slope/pitch of the roof. I had a hangar (KMNM) that faced north with a roof that sloped toward the door. Whenever it warmed up enough to melt snow, it would slide off the roof and accumulate in front of the...

Math on rent vs buy on hangar (municipal airport)

There is no requirement for the hangar itself to be insured, just as you say a general liability policy? Most municipal airports require hangar insurance and for them to be named a co-insured. Interesting.

Math on rent vs buy on hangar (municipal airport)

I’m curious why there would be no insurance requirement.

One thing I forgot to mention is rest your hand you are holding the eye drop bottle in on the hand you are pulling your eyelid down with. Keeps things steady.

    Torn retina anyone?

I had a cornea transplant plus intraocular lens replacement 1 1/2 yrs ago. Need daily drops as of yet. I get in front of the mirror and pull the lower eyelid down. While doing that, I get the eye drop bottle in position, aiming at that pulled down area, as close as I dare to the eyeball. While...

    What's Flying Like in Retirement?

I’m in the tail end of building a Hatz Classic. Biggest adjustment for me in my recent retirement is not having a business account that I could purchase airplane parts with. Now the CFO at home sees all my building expenses. Drat!

Fly In - day after reflection on idiots in pattern

So what she is saying if a pilot is doing touch and goes and remaining in the pattern, you have to extend your crosswind and enter the downwind on a 45 because it’s always best? I think not. You were in the right. She, on the other hand, needs a course in common courtesy.

    Privately-Owned Hangars at Public Airport

All this discussion convinces me to base at a private airport when I relocate. We are experiencing the very same issues as above at KMNM (Menominee MI) as a result of new county administration interpreting FAA regulation and recommendations with an iron fist. I am curious and apprehensive...

    This was a big mistake....

Got a ride in a Stearman many moons ago. After I got my hearing back and made my way home, I tried to convince the wife that college for our kids was way over rated and buying a Stearman made more sense. We paid for the kids college......
