Piper Malibu down Lake Norman, NC (14A)

Agreed, Malibu has near turboprop capability but is a lot more work to fly and properly care for. It is one of the nicest flying planes I’ve ever flown but proper engine management and care is key. I know a professional pilot friend of mine who has had zero problems with his while a local doctor...

    Cessna 182P - Pponk my O-470 or IO550?

I love my IO550 but for you I'd probably do the Northpoint XP470. Sounds like you could use the extra performance but I have to imagine the 550 is going to be a significant cost increase compared to the NP.

Yet another I hate modern cars rant

I do like a Jeep but they are just too expensive to be so crude and simple. I seem to get them as rentals a lot and one thing that has always bugged me on every one that I drove is that the digital speed readout and the needle of the speedometer don't match. I want to say the needle always...

Yet another I hate modern cars rant

I too am over new cars. When my current one dies I will try to continue on with mid 2000's cars as I feel that is the sweet spot. All these self driving, lane centering, auto braking gadgets just aren't consistent enough. I've had my car slam my head into the headrest when it auto braked...

Thinking about... buying a new TV

Unless you really geek out on the specs I’d say focus more on value than the spec sheet. The high end TV’s in the store have a great showroom appeal but most of that is because they are playing some super high def media while the lesser priced TVs are playing standard broadcast type stuff. They...

Cessna 150 or 152, which would you rather have?

It's nearly 24% heavier while only producing about 13% more power. The 320 is 30% heavier while producing 50% more power. But yes all the other factors listed are pluses of the 235 over the 200. So in the end we all agree to get an early model C150 with the O320 stc ;-)

Sell my airplane now or wait

ymmv but the population most served by the LSA rules are the older crowd. Most of them I know don't give a rat's behind about what the FAA thinks lol.

Sell my airplane now or wait

I don't think Mosaic is going to have any impact on plane purchases or values. Sell the plane now if you can, the more it sits the less it's worth.

    [NA] - Movie Theater Volume

One of many reasons I no longer visit theaters.

Cessna 150 or 152, which would you rather have?

Good question. I haven’t flown a 152 but I owned a 150B and my dad has a 150m. The 150B was more fun. It was lighter, felt lighter, and performed better. It was less comfortable, louder, and cheaper feeling. If you aren’t capable of doing a little tweaking and tinkering an O-200 may not be for...

Vans Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

My plane took 10 years and 7000 hours of labor. The best advice I've ever heard, if you are building it to fly it you are doing it for the wrong reasons. I still plan to build something of my own some day. It will be plans built so I am not reliant upon the survival of a company and so that I...

    Lovely preflight check

originally looked like a 150 and a picture of the bottom side of a continental  I know that isn't the case now... no pun intended.

    Lovely preflight check

Just depends on the shop. Lycoming gives $6,500 regardless, Barrett doesn't give much, Continental last I heard was based on condition.

    I’m calling the peak

idk prices just seem to keep getting more insane. Granted they are asking prices but if people don't get it they don't seem to sell. Bellanca ECA with 2800 + hours SMOH 49k Hiperbipe with 45 year old engine 41 year old fabric and junk radios 10 years out of annual 44.5k O235 Grumman Yankees...

    Lovely preflight check

Wow that is a really good price and lead time on certified engines and excellent core return values! Not sure what the airplane is but is there additional stc cost going to 180hp or is that reflected in the 55-68 estimate? That's a lot of extra money... unless you find your self not doing...

    I’m calling the peak

Well that is true too though I think some insurance companies will write a policy just for not in motion type coverage as well.

    I’m calling the peak

It's possible but I suspect its due to insurance prices for lower time younger pilots that are financing the planes. Most of the older guys I talk to don't carry insurance anymore and aren't required to since they likely aren't financing.

    I’m calling the peak

The market is usually driven from the bottom up. If a Cessna 150 goes up 10k and 172 goes up 15k type situation. We live in a world where people finance everything so paying 10-15k more than an airplane has historically been worth means your payment is only 100-150 more per month over 20 years...
