    Podcast Input

I'm the third person I know personally to try to make a switch to aviation career in our 30s. I think it would be cool to hear similar stories. Part of those stories involve becoming a CFI at one point. Two birds

    Williston Fly-in(X60) anyone going?

I wish I knew earlier. I'm flying the long cross-country for the commercial tomorrow and maybe I can work Williston in on my way back. Every once in a while I like to fly in and eat at the piperkub Cafe. (Not sure about the spelling)

Most unwelcoming airport - Chicago O'Hare ORD

I haven't been turned down a bridge transition through the Tampa Bravo, but only if I haven't been told to pound sand already when asking for flight following. Seems some days, they can't handle more than a few piston planes on flight following at a time.

    EFB - Flight Planning Apps

General advice, the best EFB is the one you know in and out. For people like me, I had my private and instrument rating before smartphones became popular. I took a long break and when I returned to flying, trying out all the different EFB softwares, foreflight didn't seem obviously more...

Century 1 AP driven from the CDI?

We labeled our Century I AP inop in our Grumman in case an examiner asks us to use it. About 1/3 of the time it tracks perfectly. All the other times I can't get it to work.

I hate the freaking Jax to Tampa handoff

Yea I can see how that can get annoying.

I hate the freaking Jax to Tampa handoff

I fly mostly to/from ZPH and don't experience much of that coming back from JAX area. But perhaps because most of my flying is weekends.

    First aviation headset- choice?

I switched from Lightspeed Tango headset to the CQ-1. I fly 172s, Archers, and a Grumman Traveler with these. I can wear in-ear stuff all day, and I use the comfortable foam ear tips. I wear glasses, over-sunglasses, foggles, IFR hoods, hats without any issues with the in-ear style headsets...

    No Polarization Sunglasses

I have ordered a half dozen glasses from zenni.com. I use a pair of sunglasses non-polarized in my prescription. I believe it was only around $60 dollars shipped.

    Pipistrel Alpha downsides?

Flew to Inverness, FL and the flight school told me they are starting up that Mesa program by the end of this month. They're starting with 4, but getting almost 30 planes!

How much do you spend monthly/annually on flying

$100/ month club, Grumman Traveler. $25/ hr dry. about ~$70-75 / hour with gas. Hard to beat. Average 50 hours per year after my first kid was born. Likely less this year, a 3 month annual took dump on my flying time. The hardest part is the minimum 45 minute drive to the airport.

    Florida aircraft owners w/outdoor tiedowns.

One hurricane that almost hooked back after entering the gulf in that kind of nightmare scenario was Irma in 2017. Some family moved inland from Tampa area to stay with other family in Lakeland only to get it direct. I thought for sure the house I just bought that year was going to flood or be...

    BATD usage

I've thought about buying one with a pilot friend or two. Sim club? I remember shopping around for one. Sometimes used approved home sim ones can be had for around $2000.

I bought an airplane. It was a lifelong dream. 6 months later, I'm out. (Reddit post)

I thought the commodity that backs the dollar is USD-backed oil. Isn't that the main reason why all the US presidents have a set of knee pads packed when they visit Saudi Arabia?

    FAR 61.113

I would type the distance driving via google maps, report that mileage to the company for reimbursement of travel costs. That's how I would set it up for all the employees too. If they all pile into one van or your plane or drive separately the company doesn't have to know the specifics.

    Van's RV-15 high Wing

I was really thinking hard about this one. However, I spoke to a test pilot/engineer that left on bad terms and he said to stay away from Bede aircraft. Mostly because of sketchy business than safety.
