Looking for a time builder airplane (grab some popcorn and enjoy the show).

Find a club. I joined one, decent 4 seat plane with nice upgrades over the years, $25/hour dry and $100/month fixed. Can sell your share whenever you move easier than selling the plane itself. I joined 2 clubs. One is a dream, the other is a nightmare. Give it a shot.

    Good FBO Miami?

I flew into opa locka and stayed for a few days. Stayed at Atlantic, very expensive but was treated nicely and the plane was taken care of well.

File multiple flight plans if departure time uncertain?

I have filed multiple IFR plans before. A few times because I had the wrong tail number or other wrong information. Basically I abused the process. If I made a mistake instead of calling to amend, I just filed a new plan. Only once did a controller voice an issue and asked me which plan I wanted...

Big Rant. 100 Hours in and no solo. Need any advice.

Sorry if I missed it, but I've always found it helpful to go for a fun flight. I had a stressful flight one day during training where it seemed I couldn't get anything right. Find a pilot that has access to a plane and just go fly a cross-country for fun. Buy them lunch, chip in with the flight...

Stratus 3....can it be covered with paper or microcloth?

I cover with a white towel on my dash, central florida. No reception issues in my experience.

Highest cruise altitude in an AA5?

I have flown our traveler at 9500 and it was a big sluggish on the controls and the climb was slow, at near gross weight, hot summer in central Florida.

Rental C172/C177 or Arrow to build time

How many hours do you need? If you need 50 then skip the arrow and use that money to build time. If you are looking to build 200 hours quick or something like that, then get checked out in the arrow and fly the arrow periodically and use it for long trips with friends and family.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I wonder about that too. The only times I split time on cross countries was to save money flying farther away rather than for time building.

    Studying...and Waiting....What To Do?....

I found the commercial written to be the easiest one so far after the PPL and IR. Probably because of the overlap in material with private pilot and familiarity with testing procedure.

    6+ Months Down Time?

Our club plane went in for an overhaul first week of last December, in that time I finished up the commercial written and checkride. Still no plane yet, however, I have flown over a half dozen other planes of different flavors. It's been nice and very expensive. Maybe next time the plane is...

    Southwest back in the news

Southwest has been my family's airline first choice for most flights to visit our families. I personally never had any issues with seating even though every once in a while my wife or I have been seated separately a row or two away. No big deal, especially on short flights. Usually have a cool...

    Superveloce vs Darkaero

I think they're still finalizing the prototype. But they are far enough along to give a close approximate empty weight.

    Aircraft Partnership

I've been part of one equity club for 4 years and now I'm joining a second one. The pros outweigh the cons. But I'm biased, I couldn't afford sole ownership even if I wanted. Both clubs keep the plane hangared with storage for personal gear. Cleaning the plane is easier with a few extra hands...

uAvionix announces its certified AV-30 magnetometer preorder

In that "HSI" page I change one of the custom fields to HDG. However, I have to cycle through the pages to the page where I can reset the heading when it needs adjustment.

    Air Conditioner value

I'm usually already sweaty by the time the prop starts spinning here in Tampa in the summer and after the flight just simply stowing plane into the hangar I'm soaked in sweat. That's why I always pack at least a spare shirt in my flight bag.

uAvionix announces its certified AV-30 magnetometer preorder

In our av30 you can choose gps track, or heading. The magnetometer probably slaves the heading, but you would still have option to use GPS trk.

Got a Jet Job...and Some Motivation for Others

I have a feeling that if I had a jet job that I would love flying small planes in a totally different way in my spare time. Tailwheel, grass strips, aerobatics, etc.

    Tampa

I'm working on my comm. multi add on at Tampa Bay Aviation in CLW and finished my ASEL commercial training at St Pete Air (checkride in a couple days actually.) I recommend you save time and money with Tampa Bay Aviation. Especially if you live close and working on PPL. It seems the winds are...

    Sheppard Air reviews…

I used printed texts like gliem and others for my PPL and Instrument written exams. Nearly 20 years ago. My strategy for the commercial written I took last December paid off. I used gold seal for a year ago off and on. A then a few months with sheppard air making sure to follow every rabbit hole...
