Tell me about being a CFI.

Most flight instructors are not real employees of the school but contractors that get a 1099. No benefits except maybe a discount on plane rental. Especially now with many schools loaded up with students there is/should be a limit to how they treat flight instructors.

Tell me about being a CFI.

I train and rent with several very busy flight schools in my area, and know a few independent CFIs. My CFI for my commercial always had time blocked off his schedule so he could coach sports most evenings, and my multi CFI at another busy school regularly blocked off time to make time for...

Thinking of buying a C150 for time building

I'm checked out in planes at 4 airports near me and still hard to get planes sometimes, and even still drive an hour to show up to a plane unavailable. The solution is to buy two planes I think. HA Best of luck shaking the trees. I'm in Tampa for reference.

Thinking of buying a C150 for time building

In the years I've been a part of the club, I learned that some people have a share and don't fly but no one is making the effort to sell. Knowing what I know now, if I were to move, I would ask flight schools, CFIs, message boards and pilots and line guys, I run into while getting checked out in...

Thinking of buying a C150 for time building

I hear you. Private and instrument back in '04 and '06. then took a long break. Working as engineer, got back into flying briefly in 2016, on pause again for marriage and buying a house. Back into it again in 2019, and I needed a BFR. In the lobby I found an ad for a equity club. No website...

Comm 2 has died. Is it worth replacing?

I've had separate comm1 and comm2 failures a half dozen times in multiple planes in my short 450 hours of experience. I vote for doing what needs be done to keep that comm2

    DPE availability in unacceptable

I had to travel about an hour in the plane to take 2 checkrides this year.

Advertising yourself as an independent cfi? Where and how do you do it

Isn't the CFI initial around 1/3 first time pass rate? I wouldn't put on the resume. Most likely every school has CFI's that didn't pass the first time around.

    Tall guy question!

I think I would start in a school with a C172 for training. If you are tall but not wide it should work fine. After you get the PPL, start the instrument rating. If the end goal is longer trips, that IR will be very useful, and lower your insurance costs too. As for the other requirements, I...

    What's next after Commercial?

In a similar position, finished commercial in May with a little over 400TT. I went ahead to work on the multi add-on while the commercial knowledge was still banging around in my head. I should have engaged with one of those one-week programs, but I don't have hardly any paid time off left for...

    Vulcanair P68TC (Partenavia P68)

I'm flying the Tecnam P2006T right now for my multi training. I like it for its easy flying characteristics and comfort, but I wouldn't want to own one. Not much useful load after full tanks (just ~52 gallons total). Anemic single engine climb performance if you are used to or want turbo charged...

    I fear I've created a monster!

Do you have to install an electric turn and bank to run dual G5's? I'm not sure, maybe worth looking into.

    ATL - Delta’s ATP class

If you have too much money burning a hole in your pocket and have a solid plan to bang out another 1000 hours in the next year, go for it!

    Commercial multi-engine instrument land

Congrats! I was scheduled to take this checkride tomorrow but I came down with the 'vid. Hopefully I can join the club too soon

YAWASIGT - Yet Another What Aircraft Should I Get Thread

https://www.kitplanes.com/lockwoods-rotax-powered-rv-9-debuts/ "As you’d expect, the high-altitude performance could be impressive; Lockwood thinks 200 knots true is possible at the engine’s critical altitude."

    IR to CP….how long?

I would fly with a cfi to knock out the last cross country and nail down the maneuvers in a taa or complex of a similar make and model as the plane you intend to use for the checkride. Practice the maneuvers on your own, especially an additional lap or two in the pattern every flight practicing...

    IPC guidelines

I fell behind on instrument currency during commercial training, while working on comm. multi add-on, I told my instructor to roll an IPC into it.
