    Looking for first plane

I bought a 69 Beech Musketeer that @Halffast has now for my first plane while getting my private certificate. Same airframe as a sundowner basically. I now have a Sierra so obviously still love the models. They are good, strong and roomy airplanes. Not fast but good payload at least. They are...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Tankless electric uses a large amount of power but only while in use. A large whole house system will normally need 3 dedicated 40 amp circuits at 240V. At least 2 circuits for a smaller unit. It does give you unlimited hot water but not really a big money saver in the long run. If you had...

Dual G5's vs Aspen Evolution E5 vs Dual GI 275

I just went through this same process and ended up deciding on the dual GI-275’s. My avionics guy did not recommend the aspen even though it does look to be very capable. The price difference was not that much for the 2 different Garmin products so I went with the newer units to future proof as...

    Comfortable Ownership?

I have been averaging around 7-10k per year on my complex single. I don’t fly as much as I should but I do all of my maintenance and repairs under the supervision of my mechanic. My annuals are $1000 plus parts or supplies that I buy even when I do upgrades. I don’t fly as much as I should or...

    Destin fly-in, weekend of 8/26-8/28

I will try to either fly in or drive over either Saturday or Sunday for a while. Only about a 1:15 drive from Panama City for me if traffic isn’t awful. Hopefully the weather cooperates as well.

How much does your mechanic or avionics person charge?

My mechanics charge $85 per hour but normally just charge me for the whole job and are very fair. I do all of the grunt work and learn under their instruction when able since they are very busy. Semi-Local avionics shop in Milton FL charge $65/ hour which is cheap I’ve heard. They are all older...

Looking for an AA5 and PA-28 in the NW FL area

I don’t have either of those planes but you are welcome to come for a flight with me in my Beech Sierra. I’m based at ECP in Panama City. Your height might be an issue in it though as well. No charge if you want to go up in it sometime as it gives me a good reason to go flying. My mechanic on...

For Sale TKM MX 12 for parts - $100 OBO

I have a TKM MX 12 that I removed out of my prior plane due to it no longer transmitting. The display works fine as does the receiving of incoming radio frequencies. I do not have the mounting bracket/rack. The Nav side worked as well for VORs. Thanks for the interest and let me know if you have...

    Post count before Necropost

I’m going to set a 2 year reminder to necropost to this thread if it over dies down. I for one don’t mind most of the necroposts since I haven’t been around but a few years. I always check the original date of the thread and get the gist before going to the end to avoid the accidental piling...

The History (and Future) of PoA Fly-Ins

It’s only about an hour drive for me so I would probably just drive/ fly for the day depending on weather. After Labor Day things normally slow down some but it never really dies down completely anymore it seems. I’ve actually never landed at DTS but is a beautiful area to fly over for sure...

    Rough River 2022 (2I3) 4/22 - 4/24

Why only a winter gulf coast fly-in? Summer is better for swimming. After all, it’s only a WET heat. There is private grass strip (2FL0) about 30 minutes north of the beach though and about 15-20 minutes drive time from ECP.

    Oil & Filter Supplies?

I ordered 2 filters (tempest 48110-2) from mcfarlane last Thursday. They were back ordered until April sometime. However, I just received them both today without even getting a shipment email. I only paid about $33 each including shipping. Crazy. Maybe I should play the lottery today… Sent...
