How high is too high for bottled / canned beverages in a non-pressurized plane?

Not much air in cans of drink. Seems only the air would be expanding? The chip bags have a lot higher % of air. I’d think sealed beverages would go much higher than a bag of chips.

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

15, 10 or?, I don’t really care, it can kinda depends. I think the more biggie is to listen up by 15 miles or so to get a ‘feel’ for traffic in the area. With light winds, could be anything, yes I try to fit in with existing traffic.

LNR was a nice option, the restaurant is closed now. Boscobel West of Madison is nice, 2 cars usually available.

    Turn, Climb or 360?

To be honest I’m split with flight following also. On a longer flight I get it about 1/2 the time, it all depends. It helps a lot with real time info on special use airspace, MOAs & restricted areas. Times without it I fly my VFR altitude, watch for traffic, then often dial up a frequency to...

Daily weather roundup leading up to AirVenture

Yeah, big picture, days out. Even days with unfavorable weather, often part of the day is flyable. One needs to make the hay while the sun shines, snug it up to the Oshkosh arrival.

    Bike ride to Fisk

I’ve been dreaming about those newer electric bikes lately. I just saw a guy yesterday going about 25 mph with next to no peddling. That’s more my style, especially up hills.

The search & rescue helicopter couldn’t land near the site because of ‘adverse weather’. I think that’s a clue.

    Tire finished?

Having a tire changed preemptively at the time & place of your choosing is so much easier/cheaper than at the time of Mr Murphy’s choosing. It’s not that you can eliminate all chances of problems away from home, but at least put more odds in your favor.

    Water scooping Q

Think about it, unless conditions were truly adverse, I don’t see how it would allow one to scoop more water/weight than the plane could handle. I will say it could be big weight changes, empty to full, then empty at release. Kinda like a jump plane, allowances figured out ahead of time...

Looking for Advice! & a Quick Introduction

Of course I had no idea of your age. Going from private to major airline at 57 could be a steep hurdle. Right now I’d find a place you like & work on the private. A few other options, keep your eyes out for someone with a plane, free or low cost flying, maybe. One can also study for free...

Looking for Advice! & a Quick Introduction

If female, I’d look here. https://www.ninety-nines.org/scholarship-summary.htm Yeah flight training cost $$, a major hurdle for most. I signed into the military Reserves at 17, not for everyone, no you don’t have to be a Rambo. All the services are hurting for recruitment now. A...

    SPAM's 86th birthday

Kinda like sausage, maybe best to not see what goes in or how it’s made. I don’t have spam all that often, usually it’s mixed into a scrambled eggs dish. One needs to know how to make filling food at low cost, plus as posted unopened it stores well.
