This accident is more about being lost on the airport, wrong intersection, than improperly accepting an intersection takeoff. Had they taken the correct intersection, all would be well.

Speaking of icing, that usually requires ‘visible moisture’, a cloud or falling precip. Unless flying visually through rain, the cloud part implies IFR flight. As far as I saw(didn’t look at every detail), this flight was likely operating visually. Maybe night vision, but not IFR like an airway...
