Radar contact lost with GA airplane approaching RDU

Based on the time of the accident and the aircraft type reported in the news it may have been N534Z. FlightAware shows an RNAV approach to 32. Live ATC has an airliner call bases at 1600 a few minutes prior which is well above minimums. Getting setup for the approach it seems the pilot had some...

What do you know now that you didn't know when you got your ticket?

i agree, also there is the 50 hour XC requirement. I tell my students to come back when they have at least 25-30 hours XC.

A friend of mine has his UAS operator's certificate and does aerial surveying for agricultural purposes. He normally flies it out in the middle of nowhere but was asked to do a job near an airport. He can complete the job at 100 AGL. The whole thing will take about 30 minutes and he can land...

Damn the ball, just keep the wings level

Did you have a little power in? Does not take much to get uncoordinated.

Damn the ball, just keep the wings level

For what it’s worth... when I do stalls with even brand new students, the only controls I cover are the rudder pedals. I can take a delay in getting to the other controls if something goes sideways

A reminder for why you want WAAS GPS if you fly IFR

The utility of technology and WAAS will hit you the first time you are on a trip somewhere when worsening unforecast conditions at your destination and alternate make your fuel planning questionable, so you divert for a drink of fuel based on some information you got from Foreflight and ADS-B...

G5 to get TAS and other goodies like wind data

I find the real-time wind data is helpful when shooting approaches. TAS is good if you have a fast airplane and you'd like to be reminded of that.

I’m starting my flight training but I’m scared of dying.

Surprised at some of these responses. I don't think i've had a student that did not get flustered by turbulence and gusts. It just takes some experience to get used to it. Regarding a loan, you have to be 21 to get an ATP, at the OP's age that is enough time to get it the old fashioned way and...
