    IPad Mini 6 for Foreflight

Just a note, if you are considering the wifi vs cellular: if you have an iphone, getting personal hotspot going and using your iphone's internet to connect your ipad is extremely fast and easy.

Help Me Pitch A Company Plane Solution

I know a local operation that went from a king air 200 to a CJ3+ for almost the exact mission the OP described and they've been very happy with their choice. I've flown right seat on quite a few trips in both aircraft. If the OP is doing a 1000nm trip several times per month that pretty much...

    Gone West: bobmrg

I bought several of Bob's books, PM'd him here a few times, and recommended his work to several of my students. He was truly an asset to aviation and he will be sorely missed. :(

    Why We Brief

I would not be surprised if you had a minor power loss and some loud noise that was a good reason for aborting the climb and landing on the remaining runway. However I can't see how an exhaust failure would limit you to 800-900 rpm at full power. I've seen IO-360's blow a cylinder completely...

Teaching Flow vs. Checklist in GA

In GA, as a CFI I teach all students a flow for two things. Before landing at the key position in the pattern or at the FAF when on an instrument approach, and the engine restart procedure as part of the ABCD engine failure memorized checklist. These are pretty simple, accomplished at times when...

Where to go on a flying vacation & mandatory mask ?s

Legitimate question from the OP. I have no interest in spending my vacation time and $$ to have to deal with a bunch of covid restrictions. For work, I don't really care. NC is pretty much over it, if you have any plans to visit. Masks not required in most places, and in the dwindling...

    May 21, PA31 down

Agree that the amount of fuel taken on means nothing in this case. Have done this drill a few times, picking up an airplane several hours away from home base, after heavy maintenance. When I do the initial preflight, fuel is below tabs and quantity unknown.. i'll go ahead and have it topped off...

How to calculate per hour cost

Sounds good. You might add him to your insurance policy as a named pilot for peace of mind (for both of you). I am an instructor, if i'm doing anything beyond a quick BFR for someone in a privately owned aircraft I usually ask to be added to their policy. All he has to do is fill out a one page...

How to calculate per hour cost

$45 hr dry tach time. A friend price that will help offset your costs. If this is someone you know well and trust will operate your airplane how you want it and in a way that is hassle free for you. Edit: I posted without seeing the end of the thread and it seems you came to the same number.

    Cellular Antenna

Cutting off imessage and cellular data in the settings option of an iphone will force it to use traditional text messaging and that seems to go through more often at altitude

Have You Ever Paid Anyone to Interview them for a Job?

I get that there could have been a little miscommunication, and some assumptions taken place. I understand that is all it was, so don't worry, no judgement here. You stated this guy is an airport acquaintance. I'm guessing it is also safe to say that you have a ballpark idea of what he charges...

Have You Ever Paid Anyone to Interview them for a Job?

X2.. I am a CFII A sign-off and sending a student to a DPE is your personal stamp of approval that they are 100% ready and have all their stuff in order. It is not unreasonable at all to pay for an hour or two of time to verify your logbooks.

    Hummel Field W75

I heard they were rotating the runway to get some extra length. 3000' would be really nice as it would allow me to get a 4 cylinder single out of there at max gross in the summer with no concerns. Edit - just called the FBO, figure I might as well ask. He said they were planning 3000' and...

    Hummel Field W75

Anyone based at Hummel know details about a planned runway expansion? I heard something about it, they either plan to apply for funds to expand, or have already done so but can't find any specifics.

    When to start IFR training?

My recommendation is to get at least 30 out of the 50 x/c PIC hours required for the instrument rating before you begin training with an instructor.

    Rented pilots for your plane?

Straightforward... you can pay any pilot with a commercial single engine land and a 2nd class medical to do this work. Your insurance might have some restrictions however, so talk with them. It may be a good idea to add the pilots to your policy instead of utilizing the open pilot clause, so...

Guidance for examiner to determine maneuvers on ACS

Thanks. Yeah I saw appendix 5 as posted earlier... The commercial PTS I remember had a table or something like that, which was less vague.
