    Oil burn...What are your numbers?

I used to run Phillips 100, when I moved I could only get 20-50. I think the oil stays clean longer and uses a little bit less.

    What's next after Commercial?

I'm in the same position as the OP. I got a job flying for a family that I've known for many years, not quite the owner's daughter, but as close as you can get. I got my multi, haven't used it yet. They pay me to sit right seat in things and left seat in things the insurance company will let me...

Buying a plane from an Estate

I bought my 180 this way. Widow signed it and I sent it in, got a letter from the faa that said she wasn't authorized to sign it. She sent a document to the FAA and all was squared away.

    EarthX STC approved!

Saving 10# up on the firewall sounds good. I just put a new battery in last year, when it craps out I'll look at the lithium, hopefully and bugs have been worked out by then.

    I’m calling the peak

There are two C180's listed right now for just under $100k, I haven't seen anything under $100k in a few years. It looks like across the board that prices on c180 and c185 are coming down a bit.

    Kit storage time

Buy it, store it, then several years later you can sell it for pennies on the dollar.

    Idaho is calling

Idaho is wonderful flying, but not for the timid or unprepared. I love it there, so much I just bought a ranch between Salmon and Challis, with a hayfield landing area of course.

    Eagle, CO

The Vail Valley Jet Center did get sold, but it is still an excellent FBO. Wonderful people, I used to base out of there. The flight from Eagle to Steamboat is a short easy one, we used to fly up there for breakfast pretty frequently, sometimes over to Salida or Beuna Vista. The flight down the...

    SWA Wants Tower’s Number

I asked for the tower's number once. I was transiting above their airspace and thought I was being courteous by talking to them. Shortly before I crossed over runway centerline I was told to stay north of centerline, after a few minutes was then told to make a right 360. I was 2000' above their...

For reasons of national security, please kindly don't fly so low

I've flown over the one in Idaho NW of Idaho Falls many times. But have always respected the "request". I have been told that while driving through there if you stop for any length of time that you will get a visit from black Suburbans.

    Taildragger for 1400' of grass

A C180 will do 1400' all day, everyday. I saw one listed at $99k the other day. Lowest price I have seen in a couple years. I used to take mine in and out of a 1700' hay field fully loaded, in the afternoon at 8000' msl. DA probably around 11,000 or so. Is is 1400' with obstructions at both...

    For Sale Ferry pilot available

I’m looking to pick up some extra hours. My corporate job just doesn’t keep me busy enough. I’m based out of KFSD. 1100 tt, 900 tailwheel. Multi rated but no real time. Instrument current. 560 hours c-180, 75 hours husky, 40 of that amphib, some round engine time. 50 hours c208.

    Cessna seat interchange

I know of a few really light 180’s. One competes in stol competition. No cuff, no interior, small tires, everything done to lighten it up possible. It’s just over 1500 pounds. A ‘56 that a buddy owns is 1650, on 31” bushwheels, vfr panel and cuff. When I bought mine, it was 1550 on paper...

    Cessna seat interchange

Only 10.4 pounds?? That is quite a bit of weight on a plane that size. I sold my articulating seats for a couple grand, net $ for more comfortable, lighter seats was near zero. The articulating seat I removed was so low that I couldn't see over the top of the panel. I put original type seats...

    Cessna seat interchange

I had a fully articulating pilot seat, and similarly constructed but less adjustable co pilot seat. I bought a set of seats from a ‘57 172, had the frames powder coated and installed sport aircraft seat upholstery. I saved 14 pounds on the two seats. 10 on the articulated seat and 4 on the other.

    1959 Cessna 180

Like others have said. Get an articulating seat. My 180 had one, I couldn’t see over the panel with it as high as it would go. I put I original type seats in it, brought me up 3 inches.

    Full Rich for landing?

I've never noticed a significant difference between what the MP gauge says, and what atmospheric conditions would indicate. It is NOT uncommon on 470's and 520's to make ice on take off, even in fairly "dry" climates.

RV10 or C182 or Other for my needs...?

You are 300#, the wife 140#, add full fuel and there isn't much usable load left, meaning you will be flying around at gross weight most of the time. Get a Grand Caravan, huge cabin that will fit you and all 4 kids, and spouses and dogs. Pretty good range up high and cruises at about 175kts...
