    Shortest Cross Country

300 yards. Ski plane was hangared on the west side of the plowed runway, my tools and such were on the other side, too off, hopped over the runway and landed.

    Pilot Career Question

I was not uninsurable. I was not unqualified. I went to Flight Safety shortly after I got there and shortly after was left seat in the Caravan. Company policy is two pilots in ALL aircraft, there was going to be someone in the right seat with me no matter what. I had flown that plane and the...

    Pilot Career Question

I think there is a certain amount of "back in my day we had to walk uphill in the snow to and from school everyday", so you new guys should have to suffer too. I certainly saw that at my part 91 job, most of the people there were bitter that I didn't need the job, and ****ed off that I got the...

    Seeking Accelerated Multi Engine Training

I got my multi at Riggins too. Low cost, got the job done. The airplanes are not nice, but then you aren't paying for nice.

    Ideal aircraft for commercial training

I did my commercial in a 285hp C180, with tundra tires, no big deal. Use what you've got.

    Cessna 182P - Pponk my O-470 or IO550?

550 crank is like 12 pounds heavier than the 520 crank. add a 3 blade prop and the cg moves forward quite a bit. i have a heavy case 520 and 86" 401, cg is pretty far forward, another 12 pounds (might be 15) would be quite nose heavy.

    Pilot Career Question

You are correct, I am not willing to "pay my dues" for a few years. I am 53, I don't need the job, I just like to fly. But, you cherry picked my post to get your point across, when you are promised 250 hours of flying left seat in a Caravan in 4 months, then only get 37 hours, its kind of a...

    Pilot Career Question

Times are great, pay rates are up, opportunity is everywhere, or that's what I keep hearing. But, try to find an entry level job that pays more than Burger King! I was flying part 91 corporate, I got hired because I was a friend of the owner, but the insurance company did not like my hours. I...

    Trevor Jacob

Maybe flying without a license is a violation of his plea agreement and they will revisit the sentence? I haven’t watched his new video and won’t, was he actually the one flying?

    Auto: tires

I have found that the better the traction, the faster they wear out. Hard rubber compounds last longer, but don’t grip as well. At least that’s what I have seen. I use retreads often, they wear out fairly quickly, but cost a whole lot less.

    Magnetic Compass

Unless things have changed, a compass is required. The pc12 ngx I flew had one, very frequently grossly off, but it had one.

gfc500 won't stay in heading mode

I haven't had time to call the avionics shop yet. I was flying to MSO a few weeks ago in pretty rough air, using heading mode to stay in the valley and not have to climb over terrain. It kept kicking out of heading mode and into roll mode. It was pretty rough, I was on my way to get a pitot...

What do you use to deice your plane

I push the power lever forward and go fly, the frost burns off in no time! Seriously, I am not kidding. I don't do that at short runways with no place to go after take off. But, I have tried it at long runways where I can take off and land 3 times before running out of runway. In my little kit...
