    Altitude over I-70

I lived in Colorado for 35 years, the last 7 of which I was a pilot. First based out of EGE, then out of GWS, I also kept a 466 pound homebuilt on a ranch at 8000'. I flew back and forth from GWS or EGE to Minnesota several times, I also went to CLL and back in February of 2018. I did my...

Seriously? Instructor never talked about systems? especially how magnetos work?

    Floatplane incident Miami

It might fly again, but I'd guess its going to develop corrosion in some areas. I'm not sure you can ever get all the salt out of it. But, by the time you put in a new engine, new prop, and replace all the electrical that got wet, it could very well be totaled.

    Eagle, CO

If you take your plane there, eastern Utah has some wonderful backcountry flying that is doable almost all year. Too warm for me in the summer, but fall and winter are great, spring can have mud.

    Eagle, CO

I was based at KEGE for a year or two, then it was the Vail Valley Jet Center, wonderful nice people, $500 per month heated hangar. Since they were bought out, things may have changed. I was at KGWS for a few years after that, open hangar south end a few years ago was $260/month. Some days I had...

    Altitude over I-70

I've flown from KAPA to KGWS in the afternoon in the summer. While some days its quite nice, some days its not, you really have to look at the weather. The day I flew APA to GWS was early June, there was some weather along the way and I couldn't do direct, so I flew around the weather and picked...

    Realistic career path?

I started flying at 45 years old. I never intended to fly for a living, but I chipped away at ratings one by one. PPL 2016, SES 2018, Intrument 2020, commercial 2022. First flying job, part 91 January '23. Hated the location and didn't get to fly much, quit the job. Working on CFI now, pretty...

Choosing the plane for Winter mountain trips

I'd think that with the right equipment, meaning a FIKI plane that can get up over 20,000, you'd be wanting to have a hundred hours at a minimum of ACTUAL IMC. Not simulator, not with foggles, but actual IMC in bad weather perhaps even throw in some icing conditions. Ever flown commercially into...

Choosing the plane for Winter mountain trips

Going to need more money, or adjust requirements. Aspen is not that tough to get into, but during most of the ski season there will not be parking space available, but if there is, you'll need more money for that too.

    I got hired !

It blows there, almost every day. I spent 8 months there flying for a part 91, the big hangar west of the approach end of 21. Congratulations, fly as much as you can.

    New case against flight tracking

How about we make adsb voluntary? I sure don't like my info being out there.

    Amphib float landing gear

The wheel base and track width are so big, I find them very easy to land. Even in significant crosswinds, touch one rear down and it practically lands itself after that.

Is it safe to fly an ultralight in the Rocky’s

I built and flew a CGS Hawk for years in western Colorado. It is not an ultralight, but looks like one. I based it out of a grass strip at 8000'. I landed on skis at 11,200 once, and wheels on the Flattops at 10,700. I wish I'd flown it more before I sold it, I put 230 hours on it. It was a...

    Log book error

In my first few years I wasn't on top of my log entries. I didn't care about building hours, now that I am in the search for a flying job, I wish I had recorded every minute of flight. I was converting my paper logs to electonic, while looking for math errors, I found a few small math errors...

For Sale Alaska Corporate pilot position

Perhaps you could post a link to the job, or at least the company offering $200k for pc12 and caravan positions. I suspect there are many on here that would like to know who is hiring at that rate. I see plenty of Alaska jobs offered on the job sites, none are anywhere near $200, the highest I...

For Sale Alaska Corporate pilot position

So, are you saying you wouldn't fly the PC12 for $200k? What are they paying for the PC24, $400k? I know guys flying Sovereigns and Latitudes for a whole lot less than $200k

For Sale Alaska Corporate pilot position

I guarantee they are not paying $200k for a caravan or a pc12 driver.
