New Panel - Headphone Jack Placement?

I'm going through this now in my 182. We decided to put headset jacks and usb power ports on the lower, outboard corners of the panel. Easy to plug in, like you said, and cords can route down and away from the panel or around the outside and up to the glareshield. And anything bulky (headset...

Damage History - What would you do?

Add me to the list of people who'd have no problem buying a plane with that history. My own plane had everything between the front door post and the firewall replaced at some time in the past. The owner of the avionics shop working on it is very impressed with the quality of the workmanship, and...

Future of aircraft pricing, 6months to a year from now.....

Exactly this. Take it from someone who bought a 182 in late 2021. Did I overpay? Well, compared to what? A market from years ago that doesn't exist anymore? One that might exist in the future? No sense worrying about any of that. I paid what I had to for a nice plane, and now I'm flying it and...

    Skylane avionics upgrade

Looks great, Les! Can't wait to take some after pics of mine. The G500Txi can't drive the GFC500. I think this is mostly a marketing decision by Garmin and well, can't say it didn't work on me. With a G3X/G5 install you get redundancy as either can drive the GFC500. But step up to a...

    Skylane avionics upgrade

I wouldn't say "trouble" but there was a 6 month lead time from the deposit until they started the work. The shop is pretty busy, but I got the sense that most of that was waiting for Garmin to ship. I'm still glad I found a plane I could upgrade but there are definite downsides. For me the 6...

    Divided Household

That, is a beautiful airplane! So nice.

    Skylane avionics upgrade

It's costing enough. :D I'd rather not post exact numbers, but I will say that the rule of thumb to figure the MSRP as the installation cost is really pretty close. Also, doing so much at once is saving me a bit on the labor. I think you lose some features of the G500Txi and GFC600 if you...

    Skylane avionics upgrade

I should have started this thread right after I bought the plane. ;) I wish PS-Engineering had been on my radar before I placed the order, I probably would have gone with them instead of a Garmin audio panel.

    Garmin G500Txi or G3X?

Yes, if you're are going with the GFC500 then I would make sure you get a good answer about what will/won't work if something fails. I was told a G500TXi can't drive the GFC500 and if I lost the GI275 then the a/p goes with it. Which is why I then opted for the GFC600.

    Skylane avionics upgrade

I do. Never had a remote panel, and didn't even consider one for this upgrade. Not like the 182 is hurting for panel space. That's a good question though, I don't see the 345 listed under supported audio panels on Garmin's site. My plan has been to have the extra data fields enabled on the 750...

    Skylane avionics upgrade

Thanks for the tips @Martin Pauly. I'll take a second look at the PFD controller. I kept adding and adding and eventually just had to draw a line somewhere. But I feel like after flying with everything for a year or two I'll be making some tweaks. At a minimum I'll ask them to layout a place for...

    Garmin G500Txi or G3X?

My G500TXi is going into my 182Q right now. My installer was pretty up front with me that he was sure I would love either one, and there are definite advantages to each. The number one reason I went with the G500 is because it's the newer of the two and maybe will have a little bit of a longer...

    Skylane avionics upgrade

Man, I wish my plane was going to be ready next week. I'm missing prime flying season here. Mostly because it's newer tech. Figured if I was going to do this huge upgrade let's stretch the budget a bit and and get the latest and hopefully I'll get some more life out of it in the end. I also...

    Skylane avionics upgrade

Hey POA. Been lurking for years but just started posting more regularly. Doing a big upgrade on my recently acquired 182Q and thought I'd share the progress. Just dropped the plane off last week. Little background, I moved on from a 10 member club with a single 172 last year and purchased this...

    Avionics Stack Order

Yes, I'm putting in a G500TXi, and a GI 275 standby. My avionics guy gave me the G3X + G5 option too and he was pretty open that he thought I'd be really happy with either one. I also considered a couple of GI 275s only, and that was the plan for a while until I realized I'm spending so much...

    Avionics Stack Order

I just dropped my 182 off at the avionics shop this morning to finally drag it out of the 1980s. We're replacing everything. I also thought about keeping the DME (this is the first plane I've flown that had one and I thought it was neat), but was very easily talked out of it. Extra weight, heat...

    Aircraft purchase questions

I would have taken an R! Though the only two I came across were former CAP planes that looked like they had been ridden pretty hard. Did a prebuy on one of them, but had to walk away.

    Aircraft purchase questions

The fuselage was widened with the E model in '62. And even my '78 Q has a fixed copilot window. It's the only thing I wish was different. Someone in the past added a little Cherokee-style storm window on that side which helps a bit. @Supereri if you've decided on a 182, CPA has a ~90 page 182...

G5 and GFC 600 (and GI 275 and G500 TXi)

I'm still waiting to do the install, but the quote I got didn't break down the hours in that much detail.

G5 and GFC 600 (and GI 275 and G500 TXi)

Well, I haven't flown with them but I went through this exact decision late last year, and I wound up going with your option 3. When I was shopping for 182s I looked for something with outdated avionics because I wanted to redo the panel myself. (See attached.) The plan started out with 2 GI...
