    That may well be it. In any event, the Redbird I use has been recently upgraded to XP 11.55 and the stock 430/530 is awful (I use it all the time at home and just deal…).

    That’s all well and good. I’m looking for some overall trends. There will always be outliers but just like your private, there is a range most fit into.

    My CFII says usually 10-20 hours (20 is on the high side). Again this is not counting the checkbox items like XC trips.

    Note I am currently in the same boat (with even less hours!) and no, you can’t use a Redbird by yourself to count toward the 50 hours (that has to be with an authorized instructor).

    XP11, HC Alpha/Bravo, FlightSimbuilders 530, PilotEdge (very important) and my IFR training went a lot faster as a result. All on 20.04 LTS.
