Anyone flying to an airport in the 100% eclipse zone?

As mentioned in an earlier post, we made reservations at a small bed and breakfast in the oregon desert (49OR, Lands Inn) with a dirt/grass runway. 12 aircraft showed up. They have 3 A-Frame cabins for rent, one "double A-Frame and a small apartment in their hangar that is also rented to...

    Post disaster relief flights

Our local country Emergency Operations Center is working to incorporate a Disaster Airlift Response Plan, DARP, that will use GA as part of emergency management operations. There are requirements for pilots and planes to qualify. This is part of a national program that is optional for emergency...

    Smoketown 2017

I had a plane repainted at a shop in Smoketown. They did a great job. There is also a fabulous Fairchild 71 based there. I saw it at Oshkosh this year.

    1750 NM flight to KOSH

"P.S. Looking at your map, how did you manage to go Washington State to OSH and not land in either ND or MN?" I need to update my landing map. I did stop in Minnesota, but North Dakota is easy to skip. I flew diagonally across Montana and Wyomng to get to Chief Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore...

Dang! My Maule has long range, but not because it is efficient - it is because it holds 72 gallons when all 4 tanks are full. It is a draggy plane to push through the air though, so even leaned out ar 65% cruise power I'll burn 8 gal/hr. But I didn't buy it for its efficiency, I bought it for...

Yeah, that's a bit long, even with all the zigging and zagging I did. I fixed it.

Which plane can carry a road bike best?

You clearly need to buy a Maule. This picture is me getting ready for an airplane camping trip. The backseat is out (it removes in 90 seconds with fast pins) and the cavernous cargo doors are open. Bikes are EASY to get in here too.

    1750 NM flight to KOSH

I flew to Oshkosh from Washington State and experienced every kind of terrain and most kinds of weather along the way. It took 4 days because I was slow and widespread thunderstorms shut my flying down early several days. My rear is tired and my wallet is empty but I had a great time.
