Anybody gonna fly your airplane to see the total eclipse of the Sun?

I've got a daughter in Goose Creek, SC and a daughter in Greer, SC. We will be visiting one or the other, depending on weather.

Is taking off with no runway lights a thing?

You just strap on the night vision goggles and you're good to go, right...

    First Flight with the Fam

I used to make regular trips from KOJC to K81 for the BBQ when I was living in KC a couple of years ago. I've made an ugly landing at K81 too, which is really embarrasing because folks at the restaurant are watching and not afraid to offer critiques. My wife has always been a pretty ready and...

    Sea Lion attacks

Don't know for sure what happened afterwards, but it looks like in the video that the girls parent(s) didn't even stop long enough to thank the man that jumped in to rescue her.

Why did TWA Flight 800 explode?

It was probably due to a failed AOA indicator.

    Solar Eclipse

I have kids and grandkids in Greenville, SC and Charleston, SC. Both cities are in the path of totality. We are definitely planning to be at one or the other of those two locations and watching from the ground. It's one of those things where I want to also see the look on their faces and...

Considering Grumman Tiger - Grass Strip

Strip is 2700' with 3000' cleared. Opens to lake on one end and trees on other end. Field elevation is 495'. Middle Georgia so hot summers and mild winters. Not the smoothest strip in the world but reasonably well maintained. Grass is very short. Currently flying a Beech Musketeer...

Considering Grumman Tiger - Grass Strip

Considering a Grumman AG5B Tiger and would be operating primarily in and out of a grass strip. Any issues with that plane on a grass strip that I should be aware of?

ForeFlight version 8 has been released.

I did not have terrain setting turned on. That fixed it. Thanks.

ForeFlight version 8 has been released.

Interesting. I live on a private airstrip at Lake Oconee, Georgia - 32GA. It shows on both the old and new charts. However, Lake Oconee itself is a different story. The lake was formed in 1979. It's the 2nd largest lake entirely within the state of Georgia. It's on the old sectional charts...

GPS Database - Timing of Update

Just to be clear - is midnight Zulu the last minute of 8/18 or the first minute of 8/18? Maybe easier translating into local time -EDT, which is -4.00. So does the current database expire at 8pm on 8/18 or 8pm on 8/17?

GPS Database - Timing of Update

Current cycle has effective dates of 7/21/16 - 8/18/16. Next cycle has effective dates of 8/18/16 - 9/15/16. For a flight on 8/18 would it be legal to fly IFR with the current cycle database instead of the next cycle? We are not in a position to be able to update the card between now and 8/18...

    Ongoing Proficiency Training

So nothing to offer except snark, huh? I don't imagine that if I'm going up every week there is anything wrong with me also being intentionally focused on one or two aspects of maintaining good piloting skills.

    Ongoing Proficiency Training

Does anyone have a good weekly/monthly type proficiency training schedule that you use to make sure you are getting the right kind of practice in regularly. Things like working on stalls, power off landings, steep turns, short/soft field take offs and landings, etc?

    Mid-air at KSDM

Exponentially more vehicles on the road than GA planes in the air this weekend. I don't get the point. Seemed to be in response to poster saying it had been a tough weekend for GA. Just because there were some road accidents doesn't mean it still wasn't a tough weekend for GA. Even one fatality...

    2nd Call -- You're invited to the 13th Annual N40 H.O.P.S. Party

I understand that. That's why I'm trying to find out about the odds of getting a ride out to my sleeping spot at Valley Christian later in the evening. If I can't get a ride, then not going to be much point of making the effort to come to this party. But if a ride will be pretty easy to get...

    2nd Call -- You're invited to the 13th Annual N40 H.O.P.S. Party

Would love to come. I'm flying in with a friend and we're both staying at Valley Christian School. Their last shuttle from the Airventure grounds is at 7pm. What are the odds I'd be able to get a ride to the school with someone if I stay past 7?
