    100LL Debacle

Avgas was only made in Hawaii at the BarberPoint refinery. They didn’t have the octane strength to make 100LL, nor facilities to import toluene from Singapore. Paul

    100LL Debacle

FAA and EPA says that would take 4 years, plus implementation time… IOW ~2030. 100UL availability is more an issue for local regulations. Paul

Carbon neutral jet fuel production from water and CO2

That's pretty cool, Stan! Exxon was doing diffuse solar conversion to jet and diesel using bio-engineered algae. It's all a matter of what scales most economically. They use FT downstream, presumably, so they *could* make GAMI's G100UL as well... approved today! :-) Paul

    Rules for using MOGAS?

Bonding the airplane electrically to the fuel container is very important to avoid static discharge. Grounding is not necessary, or particularly helpful. The problem with plastic containers is that they generate MORE static electricity during use, but are typically much more difficult to bond...

    100LL Debacle

The FAA met the two-week promise. Then ensued some clarification discussions - what did the FAA *mean* by what they said?! I think it's settling out now... hopefully something to share by next week. Paul

Except for those annoying ICE guys... they put K in front of every airport identifier, and fuss if you don't also. :-( Paul

    100LL Debacle

The difference with children is that lead adversely affects connections between neurons in the brain, and hence permanently reduces intelligence. No amount of walking it off will reverse that permanent brain damage. The type and permanence of lead impact is very different for children and...

You may just be lost! If your location is Oakland, why are you dining 90 miles east on Howe Avenue? Thanks for the suggestion, though, we enjoyed tritip salads at the Walnut Creek location yesterday, at your behest. I'm guessing Howe Avenue has gee whiz stuff because they are adjacent the...

Wheel replacement? Wear in bearing race

When this happens in other contexts, like a car, there's a thing called a railroad fit... you use a punch to upset several spots around the circumference, and restore the tight fit. Paul

    100LL Debacle

There are 8 avgas producing sites in North America. There are 5 companies working on unleaded avgas, but only *one* of those is also a producer, who accounts for two of those eight sites. So, unless you believe the six others will exit the market, *and* the one inventor/producer will succeed...
