To BasicMed or Stay with 3rd Class

AOPA’s Mark Baker gave a brief update on this at Sun ‘n Fun. He says the Canadians are conceptually on board, but the administrative steps are cumbersome. It may come to pass that ICAO adopts a BasicMed option next year, and that will make it easy for Canada to come on board. Fingers crossed! Paul

To BasicMed or Stay with 3rd Class

Haha! It's not like going to confession... the Third Class only requires reporting the past three years of medical visits. (Initial comparison for those of us who go to confession less often than every three years...) In any case, my med visit summary is in my income tax file every year... grab...

To BasicMed or Stay with 3rd Class

That's not accurate. If the AME opens the MedExpress, using the number you furnished him, then the alternatives are only to issue, defer, or deny. There's no walking away. A smart approach, *if* your AME will cooperate, is to print out the BasicMed so the AME has it to look at... then schedule a...

To BasicMed or Stay with 3rd Class

that's old data! Mexico and the Bahamas are on board with BasicMed, and Canada is finally coming along, at the speed of bureaucracy... Paul

To BasicMed or Stay with 3rd Class

The problem is that you don't know what you don't know... every third class medical is a dance with a snake that can turn venomous! That risk goes away with BasicMed... unless you use the third class extra stuff (Canada? Changing soon...) go BM. May not have to change docs, but my PCP does my...

    Cessna Cluster Gauge Issue

Actually, JPI's thermocouples are grounded at the probe end. That makes it important that the JPI box's ground, the brown wire, also be grounded at the engine, not the airframe. That's not the issue here, but it's wrong to say JPI doesn't rely on engine ground paths... accurate results very much...

Talk me out of renewing my AOPA membership

Unfortunately, to be an effective lobbyist, you can't air the details of what conversation went on with which government official. Swift, GAMI, Shell, Phillips 66, and Lyondell have all been public about the critical assistance that AOPA has contributed to keeping the unleaded avgas effort on...

    0-320-E2D oil change question

Let's clarify that the crush gasket goes under the plug for the *suction* screen. If your engine already has a spin-on oil filter as it seems, from the context of your question, then there's no *pressure* screen any longer... the oil filter takes the place of it. One is supposed to clean the...

Best Hangar Air compressor for maintenance tasks?

Easy! Wire the blow down valve to the compressor power leads, *after* the pressure switch. Then it will blow down when the compressor starts, and every 20 minutes (or whatever interval you select) after that of continuous compressor operation. Probably just once at each compressor start would be...

    [na] WiFi Home Thermostats [na]

line voltage heating is typically 120 volt or 240 volt electric baseboard heat. Those thermostats need to be able to switch the 120 or 240 directly. Most thermostats are designed for 24 volts AC, provided by a control transformer inside the furnace or AC unit. The 24 volts AC then operates a...

    Travel CPAP recommendations

according to a recent thread on BeechTalk, we should wear CPAP *while* flying. Apparently inflating the alveoli increases oxygen transfer, seems reasonable. They reported at 12,000’ increasing sat from 87% to 95% Paul
