NPS attempting to close airstrip at Stovepipe Wells

Really appreciate the update report. Yeah, that runway is certainly usable.

NPS attempting to close airstrip at Stovepipe Wells

Thanks. So not as bad as it's been made out to be in all the places I google searched? One site said it was practically unusable. I've been to Gravely Valley, which has 2-3" deep ruts from ATVs doing donuts on the runway when muddy. Furnace Creek better or worse than that? Sent from my...

NPS attempting to close airstrip at Stovepipe Wells

Apologies for reviving this thread, but does anyone have a recent runway condition report for either Stovepipe Wells or Furnace Creek? Anyone been there since the flood? It's been a few years since my wife and I have been to Death Valley, and we're thinking a mid-November to late December...

Will an airplane engine failure on takeoff cause an aerodynamic stall?

I see what you did there! Nice.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

So is that both things? Radiator and up front? Or is there something else? After watching my Dad work on his Karmen Ghia when I was young, I picked up that having a radiator (never mind the location) wasn't correct, but I don't see anything else... -\_O_/-

Fibbed to ATC. Got Caught. Was given number to call

Not my experience at all. Most of my experience with ATC is in California, but I've also made several long X-country trips up and down the West Coast, including Canada, as well as flying to TN and AZ several times, so I have got experience dealing to ATC in other parts of the country as well...

What was your earliest national/international memory?

Apollo 11 launch and then the moon landing a few days later. Watched it with our neighbors on one of the few TV sets in the neighnorhood. I wasn't quite 3 years old yet. My Dad tested rocket engines in Tullahoma , TN, and he tested a lot of the ones in the Apollo program, so I knew that he...

I understand it, I just don't get it...

Not Brad, but... 9/11/2001, San Francisco Bay area... Never realized how much a part of the aural environment airplane sounds were until they went away for a few days. Sad and unsettling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    You're

Since this is a nitpicking thread, I have to jump in here, go to full nitpick pedantic mode, and say that's not true. I don't see any irational or trancendental number in that post. I do see a rational number which looks to be the identical to the first 11 digits of the irrational...

    Dumb war question

Only in SoCal. The rest of the state doesn't seem to have that particular affectation (except for the SoCal transplants).

    Accidental Fitbit cheating

Same thing happens with my fitbit if there's turbulence. Not many bumps -> not many steps. Lots of bumps -> lots of steps. Teking it off my wrist while in the air seems to fix the issue.

ATIS/AWOS info - how much do YOU write down?

    It's called: "ATIS app"

ATIS/AWOS info - how much do YOU write down?

I tend to write it all down. Good practice for copying clearances as well. Prefer paper and pen to my tablet for some reason. I'm getting lazy at my home drome, however. There's an ATIs app for the iOS ecosystem (maybe for Android as well, I don't know) that gets the ATIs for the larger...

    Math help[NA]

Kids? I'll have you know that my HP-11C got me through high school ('1984), my Bs (1987), and my Masters (1989) in EE. Replaced it with a 15C when someone stole my 11C. Still have it, and it still is in great shape, but honestly, pclac does everything I need now. One of the...

    Math help[NA]

    Assuming a linear fit, 2 points only: slope m = (y1 - y2)/(x1 - x2) m = (8.54 - 7.87)/(966 - 1299) = -2.01e-3 y = mx + b => b = y - mx choose any point: b = 8.54 - (-2.01e-3 * 966) = 10.5 so y = -2.01e-3 x + 10.5 I've kept each of the calculated values to 3 sigdigs.

    Category 8 Ethernet Cable

You're most likely not gonna see any difference at all. Your cables are probably not the limiting factor in your speed; it'll be your equipment. Most likely your equipment is 1000Base-T (1G), unless it's really old 10BT or 100BT. In all those cases, the cable isn't going to be the limiting...

    What's in Albany?

Yep, oldest engineering school in the country is what we were told. Don't know much about the NCAA D1 hockey team, but I love watching the ACHA D2 team on Youtube. College sports like they are supposed to be. Competetive games against other schools for the pure love of the game and...
