My guess would be condensation caused by a pressure drop at the inlet.

Landing A 182 In My Back Yard?

Okay, not trying to change your mind here about the side-by-side seating requirement, but I do want to throw a few things out there for you to consider. I’m saying this as an owner of a four place, low wing plane: 1. In our plane, when my wife and I are going on long (2+ hour) trips, She...

ATC saves the day, the Bonanza, not so much

Wow. Just.... wow. Kudos to both the controller and to the pilot. Gave me chills listening to that. So glad it was a good outcome.

Landing A 182 In My Back Yard?

That’s what I seem to remember from flying off of grass with my father a looong time ago. Thanks for confirming that I haven’t lost it yet!

Landing A 182 In My Back Yard?

Might be worth re-evaluating the airplane-mission match. For local sightseeing, and quick tours around the area, why not something cub like? And then you could join a local club to rent a 182 or the like for the longer trips. Or if you’ve got the money, buy a 182 also and keep it at the local...

Landing A 182 In My Back Yard?

And those charts are for a paved, level, dry runway. I don’t a have a lot of experience with grass runways, but I seem to remember that it can take longer to accelerate for takeoff, and that the braking action is not as good on grass, particularly if wet. Gravel will/might be similar?

Landing A 182 In My Back Yard?

A 1200 foot strip at 1000 MSL seems pretty marginal to me at reasonable temperatures and loadings, particularly for a brand new pilot. It would be out of my comfort zone.

    Spatial Disorientation Today

Good question. Hard to say. I can't see anything different today from my previous times flying this departure in IMC. The density altitude was minus something, so perhaps the extra performance and climb rate acceleration had something to do with it? I don't really know. I try to get at...

    Spatial Disorientation Today

Hard to say what the difference was. I've flown this same departure in IMC multiple times without any issues. I was able to keep level even though I felt like I was in a roll, but turning on the autopilot helped a lot in getting over the situation. The key is to have a rigid adherence to...

    When Selling Plane- Test Flights?

I've bought one plane and have made offers on two (including the one I ended up buying) Flew both from the right seat. Not being able to go uo and fly them would have been a no-go for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Spatial Disorientation Today

Had a really bad bit of Spatial Disorientation today. It’s usually pretty rare for me to get affected by the leans, but today it was pretty bad. The weather this morning was pretty lousy with few at 200, scattered at 700, and broken at 1100 at San Jose (KSJC). Stockton was reporting Low IFR...

    Struggling with lazy 8s

The other thing about the commercial manuevers is the requirement to slow to Va prior to doing them. A chandelle starting at 140mph is a lot less fun than one at 200mph. And did I mention that commercial lazy eights are boring? [emoji3] Maximum bank 30 degrees and Va? Ugh. Spirals...

    Struggling with lazy 8s

Yeah about keeping the eyes outside. The commercial manuevers are primarily visual reference manuevers. Since many people go on the the commercial right after the instrument rating, the habit is more to fly by reference to instruments. Much better to fly with eyes out and only occasionally...

    Struggling with lazy 8s

I had similar issues when I was working on my Commercial. Fun lazy 8’s are pulling up, doing a wingover type of thing, coming downhill, and then doing it again but wingovering (<- probably not a real word) to the other side. The commercial manuever lazy 8 has very little to do with this...

Bellanca Viking lands on I-35W in MN on 12/2/2020

Already a YouTube Video about this with a focus on the pilot. His other plane is an Extra, and he’s on the US unlimited aerobatic team.

Bellanca Viking lands on I-35W in MN on 12/2/2020

This incident is being discussed over on the Viking Pilots forum. The pilot is a member. One has to remember that it was dark, and the driver of the car saw the flashing strobes and landing/taxi lights and thought it was an emergency vehicle needing to pass. Putting on the brakes prior to...

Ah, the mag vs true wind raises its ugly head again

    Changing CFI after checkride failure

The Point Reyes arrival is the only arrival procedure I ever been given in the 7 years since I got my instrument rating, and I’ve only been given it once. It was at night, and I agree, not a great feeling to be that far out over the water in a piston single. I’m based at SJC, and when coming...
