Can we talk about the 172?

My 172 L model has the original paint [pealing] and factory interior [cracking] and continues to fly pretty good. Not sure I would attempt a coast to coast cross country without an AI on board but I like the plane. I do feel the need to defend the "honor" of the lowly 172. I'm also surprised...

    Questionable Weather for IFR Checkride

The CFII was happy about me passing but not so pleased with the ATC reprimand. He is a great instructor but by the book. ATC phraseology is something he always insists you get right. A good day for me and one I’ll never forget. I will say the winds were way above my personal minimums...

    Questionable Weather for IFR Checkride

I did fail to give my altitude on one of the missed and departure had to ask my altitude. After the ride, I took off and was heading back to the home airport, then was told to contact departure. It was female controller who gave my instructions on departure. A few seconds later a male...

    Questionable Weather for IFR Checkride

I did my IFR checkride yesterday and the winds were wicked. I had scheduled my ride about 4 weeks earlier and when the day came I thought the DPE would put it off. Instead he texted that he would see me at 1300 so I headed over to kflo where the winds were reported 17 gusting 24. It was...

Where do East Coast pilots hang out?

It's a laid back crowd. If you get there around 10:30 there will a few folks hanging around and eating. Depending on the size of the crowd and location, it will last from an hour up to two hours. Folks take the time after the meal to look at the planes and visit. You will have fun.

Planning a trip to Airventure 2022

Did not try to reserve but rather sent emails through RVShare. Probably should have made an effort to just reserve a RV instead of inquiring about it through RVShare email. Anyway, we are in and everything is good. Looking forward to our first RV experience and first Airventure.

Planning a trip to Airventure 2022

Just a few more thoughts on RV camping. We decided to forgo flying the 172 and go commercial and found a flight from CLT to ATW non-stop for less than $400 round trip. Rented a car from Budget for $110/day. Registered on RVshare.com and sent out inquires for RVs on our dates. I sent over 15...

Soybean or cornfield emergency landing debate

I grow both soybeans and corn. One other thing to consider when making a forced landing into a soybean or corn field is the direction of the rows. It would be best to land in the direction of the planted rows and not at an angle or perpendicular to the planted rows. I have heard of a local...

From the internet..... there is no such thing as bad publicity "Getting media attention is always a good thing, even if the coverage is negative or unflattering. I know you're disappointed about that bad review, but there's really no such thing as bad publicity—now, more people know who you...

    Cirrus accident, Knoxville, TN 12/16/21

From the FAA [AIM]: https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim_html/chap7_section_4.html "Pilots should be alert at all times for possible wake vortex encounters when conducting approach and landing operations. The pilot is ultimately responsible for maintaining an appropriate...
