    A Case for VFR Advisories

Great writeup - glad everything turned out OK! Although now I'm wondering what that other plane was too.... You're correct that advisories are good to get if you can get 'em; recently attended a safety seminar where controllers from local airports were talking about runway 'hot spots'. In...

    Left wing, right wing?

Maybe... Came in at -4.75 / -2.46. Graph puts me somewhere between Ghandi and Nelson Mandela.

My first "cross country" solo flight today

Congrats on your solo X-C - Sounds like you did a great job! I think all of my landings on my first solo cross-country were... memorable.... all cross-winds that day... but the planes were fully reusable afterwards :) Leslie

    Nexrad and OSH

Felix- thanks for the pictures. I agree with Tony, #2 does have a more sinister look to it. Haven't had a chance to try out the 496 in the air yet, as it came back from OSH in the trunk of the car. Doing some flying this weekend though, will make for a good initial run. On the other hand...

AOPA Day in the Life pictures posted - POA representation!

FYI, AOPA has posted the collage of photos they were requesting from A Day in the Life of America's Airports. For those that remember, the day selected was May 19 - our Wings Fly-B-Q. We've got some POA'ers who made the photo submission cut - congrats and great work! to check it out...

AirVenture Oshkosh 2007 Plans & Meetups

My normal route between Indy and home was I-65 to I 80/94, then keep on I-80 west to our place (we're not too far from the JOT VOR). I always found the part where you exit I-65 and get on 80/94 to be the toughest part traffic-wise; not too many other east-west options if your goal is to go...

    Fun Flight Yesterday

:D :D Seriously, though - that flight sounded like great fun! Wish you luck in getting in the air today - it's breezier than yesterday around here as well,, density altitude for a 650 Elevation runway is already at 2500 this morning...

    The Lottery!

Once in a while. I agree with others here: generally buy only once the jackpot gets over a threshhold, and don't spend more than you'll cry about if you lose - if you're wondering whether you're spending too much on tickets, you probably are....

Kid to Camp in a jet!

Well, let's hope that was crunchy peanut butter - that would certainly justify the cost

Kid to Camp in a jet!

Good grief; people with more money than sense. I got picked up from band camp in a station wagon...

    First Solo XC Today

Good job on the solo x-c! I remember mine... it was the first time I felt like a real pilot. I flew a lot that day.. am guessing that every controller in central and downstate IL heard from me that saturday (not because I was in their airspace, but thought there was a chance I might be if I...

How is your year shaping up?

No specific target, but I've been getting out a lot given all of life's competing priorities. Also using the instrument rating quite a bit during those hours, feels good to be able to put it into practice after the winter hibernation.

    Flightplanners?

Another free entry: www.landings.com Main page has a bunch of stuff on it, but in the 'flight section' (at the bottom, after the yellow bars), select 'planning'. Seems to accept the modified entry, including cycd. place semicolons in between points. Haven't tried user-defined, but it will...

    need ideas!!!

Judy - Not sure if you're still looking for information on this, but ran across one of the "Joy of Flight" entries in an APOA e-pilot newsletter. They helped reunite a pet with its owner when it strayed from home. Nice thing is that in addition to being pilots, one is also a vet...

Would you jump from a perfectly good airplane?

Ah, nope. The option of skidiving was posed to me 10 years ago as a birthday present, I responded pretty much with, "and why (add with the title of this thread)?" The second option posed to me that day was an intro ride in a Cessna 152. The rest is history.
