Hoo boy! Plane on golf course could be one of ours.

Gotta wonder how much time he actually saved given the need to pre-flight, get wx briefing, etc. versus just high-stepping it to the car and driving in. Unless, of course, those preliminary steps aren't necessary for him to take either..... geez.....

    Telescopes (NA)

I purchased my first telescope this past March, and will say that there are many options to consider, some of which you've alluded to here. I'll share some of my thoughts when researching, and a couple of links that may help. Basics to consider will be the scope itself, and the mount it's on...

    Got a new toy

Tahtian black pearl pendant..... very nice choice. Grant got some new sunglasses and a lambskin bomber jacket to keep warm and fly safe. I wasn't expecting the Zulu headset, but am looking forward to using them as soon as the weather, and this cold/flu (decided to hit me Christmas day...

Happy and safe thanksgiving to all.... had a last minute change of plans, so Grant and I will have a nice, cozy thanksgiving dinner for three (us and the cat :) ). Necessary provisions (food & firewood) acquired; time to get cooking. I fly tomorrow; it's 210 checkout time!

    Flying into O'Hare

Barry - sounds like you have a good deal of input to consider here. (A point of clarification: When I relayed what I was told about having to file and talk to TRACON to get in, which generated this response: What I was referring to was specifically getting into ORD with the intent of...

    Flying into O'Hare

Hi, Barry. Some good advice posted here; driving could be a better option, but... based on our magic carpet ride, a few tips that may be useful if you're heading to the Big O... - Plan to file IFR, even if it's severe VFR outside. In my conversation with the tower chief the afternoon before...

    Clow - whats going on?

Airport should be open on Saturday - the museum's at the north end of the airport, the unveiling shouldn't halt traffic. Leslie

Spike - thank you for the boost - I take that as high praise!! You haven't seen us in our shirts AND crew hats - 'course, we only put on the full regalia when we're racing, psyching the competition and all. Although methinks we may need to change it up - haven't won a race yet....

    First Angel Flight

    Done.

We took some pictures, many of which were while we were taxiing, so they're somewhat blurry. But I'll check in with Grant (out on an angel flight right now, so I'm on dinner duty today) when he gets home about sending some of these up - haven't figured out how to get images off of his video...

    You have to watch this

Yowza! That is something. Conscious and talking, too! Very strange that the pilots seet remains intact and upright when the rest of the plane has been torn off around him - that's got to be unbelievably spooky to see happen (when you're not busy landing the plane)..

    Done.

Didn't hear that call yesterday, just a 'watch for departing 172' note. Maybe that's part of the handling fee package..
  17. lprellwitz

    Done.

Can't avoid the landing fee; but it's actually only about $10 for a 172, per a call to Signature earlier in the day. We figure that will come through to the aircraft owner, and we'll tell the FBO to put it on our account, so they're not out any $$. Don't know about the security fee yet...

    Done.

Yeah, I saw later that it looked more like a mug shot than a victory dance, but I was a pretty happy camper. Was also glad we didn't have any more taxiing - we only took off with 5 hours of fuel on board, I was concerned we'd be declaring a fuel emergency if we had to go too much farther :D...

Nick: this one's for you.... http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N5105N ConUS claim is pending. While I called the tower chief earlier in the day to let them know of our plans, I think we still managed to provide some entertainment value in an otherwise calm evening. From Approach (who...
