    Massive Candian Low Pressure System

Previous quote: No snow is in Tuesday's forecast, but the barometric pressure could drop to 28.35 inches (959 millibars). The lower the pressure of a storm system, the more violently moisture is sucked in. WX geeks will be watching barometer! Count me a weather geek..... Eleveth-Virginia...

    happy birthday Leslie

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I didn't get to fly on Friday, but was happy to be home after 2 weeks of business/personal travel, 6 airplane trips, no loggable hours :cryin: Catching up on homework this weekend (bringing all the books would have taken my luggage over the weight limit)...

Sept. 24th Fly In & Air Show - KAIG (WI)

Re: Sept. 25th Fly In & Air Show - KAIG (WI) Update: called airport manager, the notam indicating airport closure at 10:00 is apparently incorrect; the correct time should be 1:00.

    contacts for vision correction?

Always flown with contacts, no problems other than the dry eyes others have noted - I sometimes use the right-side pocket of the tri-fold to hold a bottle of lens rewetting drops. I've always worn soft contacts, but in the last 2 years or so I've switched to soft daily wear lenses - I toss two...

    DriodX -v- iPhone

Limit is 2GB for wi-fi hotspot capability for the $20, $0.05/MB after that. The purchase of a data plan is also required. I already had that with my previous phone, so no changes there.

    DriodX -v- iPhone

Testing out the wi-fi hot spot now on the Droid X - pretty good response time, working wirelessly from a netbook, no special apps needed. With Verizon, the $20 is for the whole month, but you can activate/deactivate the service by logging into your account online, and only pay for the time you...

    2010 6Y9 Fly-In update

Grant and I are out. Discussing options, looks like we've got 30+ kt direct crosswinds and no instrument approaches into desired destinations. Not a good scenario. Scott - doesn't look like we'll be joining you for lunch on Friday. OTOH, two good things: 1 - We did make it to 6Y9 earlier...

    DriodX -v- iPhone

My Droid X is here! Ordered on Aug 14, they said to expect it to arrive by 8/31, was delivered 8/25 to the office. Hopefully, delivery timelines have picked up for others as well. I'm not extremely tech savvy, didn't understand what all this 'app' business was about, had previously used my...

Failed my Class III medical today.

Same here - been wearing since I was about 8, so never really had a choice not to unless I wanted to spend life bumping into walls and seeing every light more than about a foot away as a big fuzz ball.... Prefer to fly with contacts, though - don't have to worry about sharp vision stopping at...

Air Derby Aug 28 - Come join us, and win some $$$ (if you're THAT good......)

You are correct - the experimental issue is an insurance issue, as our organization has to purchase insurance for flying events such as this - afraid experimentals aren't covered. And yes, an ultralight would be a much too much of an edge on the spot landing - but I like the thought...

Air Derby Aug 28 - Come join us, and win some $$$ (if you're THAT good......)

Wanted to extend an invitation to all of my fellow POAers to join in the Chicagoland Air Derby, being held Aug 28th at DeKalb Airport - KDKB. The Derby is has been going strong for over 60 years, and is hosted by the Chicago Area Chapter of the Ninety-Nines. Details of the event are on our...

    Kneeboard

Mine is fairly similar to this one: http://sportys.com/PilotShop/product/9199 (Seems like they've upgraded a bit since I last purchased one - now there's zippers involved) I agree with other posters, to buy what you think you'll need, and don't spend more $$ on features that aren't helpful...

    Barefoot Bandit taken into custody.

Looks like the idea of a long time in a Bahamian jail is out.... http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-ap-cb-bahamas-teenfugit,0,5344273.story I'm not pleased about what he told Bahamian police about why he chose the Bahamas as a destination..... 'Harris-Moore told police in the Bahamas...

    Barefoot Bandit taken into custody.

Beyond my comprehension. If I even had a whiff of thinking about doing something like this growing up, I'd have to pick a landing place where I could keep running -- from my parents! Perhaps a more effective lesson on the meaning of the concept of 'wrong' would be achieved by his having to...

    Insurance companies are strange.

As noted, the EMTALA laws on emergency treatment are more far-reaching than just Medicare patients. With Medicare and other insurance companies, my understanding of the basic premise is the same - you sign a contract, agreeing to accept the reimbursement they wish to pay you for treating...
