Any good landing tips while on final?

I have a t-shirt that says this. I find it hilarious. Also - wearing aviation-related t-shirts lets everyone know that you're a pilot. That's important. Making sure you let everyone around you know that you are a pilot is something that you need to learn before soloing. Has OP tired this...

    MSFS2020 Disappointment thread

Rusty is REALLY going to think I'm a big dork now, but I'll say this - there's nothing wrong with getting BOTH X-Plane and MSFS. I have both. Have been using MSFS more recently because I love the overall immersion that sim provides in VR. But I still do fire up X-Plane from time-to-time. And...

Future of aircraft pricing, 6months to a year from now.....

Regarding timing the market - when we got the Arrow in 2020, it was just at the start of the pandemic. We though - "hmmmm... maybe we should hold off... economy is going to tank and everyone is going to be selling off their toys...." We found a nice Arrow at a good price, worked out our deal...

Future of aircraft pricing, 6months to a year from now.....

I am pretty sure prices are going to go up. Or down. Or stay the same. I am confident in this statement.

Pilot Arrested after Highway Landing 7/15

 Dean Wormer... Classic. I give it a week before a new member pops on and asks how he can log the time...

..I had a gear up landing - and my first declaration

Great job! Glad to hear everyone is ok. Sorry about the aircraft, but that means nothing compared to the fact that everyone walked away. Great job.

Setting Kohlsman to allow agl indication?

 Nah I love learning about this stuff. I'll probably never have the opportunity to what guys like Sluggo and Kayoh and Larry and others on this forum do for a living. But it fascinates me. So any opportunity to learn how the pros do it is not an opportunity I'm gonna pass up. :D

Setting Kohlsman to allow agl indication?

Yep, I misspoke. Example: The MAX1F SID from Heathrow: Trans alt: 6000 so that's where you would switch to standard. The TANET1Z STAR to Heathrow: Trans level: By ATC So they would assign the level at which you switch from standard. Thanks for pointing that out. Procedures outside of...

Flaps and Carb Heat on Landing Rollout

Ah ok that makes sense.... like this? Yeah the Johnson bar handle is pretty far away from the gear lever in the Arrow. (that video is so hard to watch)

Flaps and Carb Heat on Landing Rollout

I am not trying to be argumentative here, so please take this only as a question so I can be informed. I have a... uh, friend, who does T/Gs in his retractable gear Piper... may or may not be an Arrow.... :) Why not do TGs in a retract?

    MSFS2020 Disappointment thread

I know. Rusty thinks I'm a dork :( I don't care. I'm still jelly of his Lance and all the stuff it can carry :D The stock aircraft are a complete joke. They are like toys. Don't even try them - they are terrible. Some of the newer payware stuff from Fenix and PMDG is pretty amazing, though...

Flaps and Carb Heat on Landing Rollout

Exactly. In le Arrow, Dumping flaps and having the yoke in my chest means I don't touch the brakes until just before turning off. And I am carrying very little energy at that point, so the braking is minimal. Since I pay for brake pads, this is my SOP be it short field or 10,000' of asphalt...

Yep. Aviation Adventures is still running strong and, as far as I know, he's running it. They bought out what was Westside Aviation's maintenance facility over on the west ramp, too.

Better than TV or youtoob? Dunno. It's relaxing for some reason.

Flaps and Carb Heat on Landing Rollout

In the Arrow I dump the flaps when I'm on the rollout. That, plus making sure the yoke is as aft as I can get it helps with aero-braking. Works in the Arrow. But others may behave differently. Don't have a carb to heat, so I don't worry about that.

    anyone know where @denverpilot is?

Aw jeez I guess I haven't seen a Nauga post in a few days.... that avatar is just creep-y. As someone with self-diagnosed coulrophobia, it just makes me very uncomfortable.

    What is "participating VFR" ?

That's a good question. I think the technical answer is you don't have to. Since you may or may not have been monitoring approach (or whatever the frequency). Practically - if ATC called me up and asked if I was on freq and then gave me a code and started vectoring me for traffic... I would...

    N. Las Vegas Mid-air

At KHEF we have parallel runways with aircraft that converge to final from either side. Has happened more than once where I am on a base-2-final for 16R and another aircraft meanders over across 16L final. Doesn't happen as much on the 34 side I guess due to 34L being much longer. Tower is...

So, if I'm on flight following and am a Participating VFR Aircraft....... .......do I get a participation trophy?

    MSFS2020 Disappointment thread

As an X-Plane fan, I poo-poo'ed MSFS at first, too. I have to say, the addition of some pretty amazing aircraft from PMDG and Fenix as well as getting my VR settings dialed in, it has become my go-to sim.
