When to know when to quit...or at least take a long hiatus

Alas, I am up north in Canada masquerading on POA.

When to know when to quit...or at least take a long hiatus

I have had some medical issues which have kept me off the controls for 6 years (which is shocking, it feels like 2). Forced hiatus I suppose, but also I have not had the funds to be flying enough over the past few years to be comfortable. I am a big flight sim nerd, and I work in aviation... so...

What were YOU doing at 14 y/o?

I was really impressed by that girl. Good for her, something she will remember forever. If she wants to, she will have a long life of flying ahead. At 14 I was... pre occupied with the opposite sex, starting to get into partying (Sober almost 10 years now), working on a farm and the local...

    Tall guy question!

6"5, broad shoulder man here. 172 and Warrior for my PPL, no issues at all, other than rubbing shoulders with my instructor... but he smelled nice enough that wasn't a problem. There are many airplanes that will fit you fine, but as you know with cars they may never fit you as if you were 5"9...

737 Hard Landing at John Wayne

That's what I was thinking... the video does not look like that firm of a touchdown... I certainly have been on worse myself. To send a strut into the wing? There must have been something going on with that attachment point to cause it to fail like that.

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

Sorry I mixed that up, yes... the sun would be in their eyes... same effect though if haze was present.

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

They had just entered the mountainous terrain. Most likely would not have been that dark, sun had just gone down in front of them while they headed west... however there are forest fires within 200 NM of that area... which can mean haze. With the low angle of the sun combined with haze, this may...

Cherokee Six Down in Canada-6 fatalities

https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/318489 This one is brutal. Coming across the Rockies from Calgary area towards the BC Okanagan. 6 Young men dead, a few fathers, one father to be... has rattled the GA world up here for sure.

I want to go to OSH 2024... BUT

I have no problem driving 30-1 hour even. Perhaps right now the hotels haven't opened up booking yet. If you look now say on Booking . com it shows booked all over that area. Like I said, we are in Vancouver and don't at all mind having to drive a bit and make an effort as we have never been before.

I want to go to OSH 2024... BUT

Seems like Air BNB is the way to go. I definitely don't mind driving in each day. I will check it out. Appreciate it. Certainly the heat is a factor, but what are you going to do... gotta deal with it.

I want to go to OSH 2024... BUT

I have wanted to go to OSH for a very long time, and have never made it. My Dad will be 71 next year, and is a dream of his too. We live up in Vancouver Canada. The problem is, there is already NO accommodations for 2024. I don't think dorms will work for us... especially Pops is past that...

    VFR flight plan - why?

I have forgotten, they call you to check in... and you just tell them to close it. Not a big deal.

    VFR flight plan - why?

(Canadian here) Not to mention alot of the areas I fly in BC are REMOTE... much more so than the US. And, we see it all the time where GA aircraft go missing. So I at least want them to put the call out if I don't close my plan out.

    What an epic trip!

Good on you for getting out and doing a long x country like that. Nothing wrong with the 140... I flew one with a 160 upgrade in it for awhile, I liked that little airplane. Here's to many more!

    B17 crash at Dallas.

I don't think it is strange... have you read through this thread? It is speculation on "who didn't see who" or who made the error. In reality, it goes all the way back to how something is planned, training, various other factors etc...

    B17 crash at Dallas.

Having been involved in many investigations involving aviation incidents, albeit none as serious as this, it is important to remember the blame never lies on one party. It is ALWAYS a systemic breakdown... the holes in the swiss cheese line up. RIP to all involved, and I hope lessons will be...

    Sellers, why?

Because their Wife (or GF, or both ;)) want them to sell.

It looks like a model or a toy, it is spotlessly clean too.

The real one looks better. Workhorse. Quite the journey. I hope the grass is greener where ever he ends up.
