I did make it out to Billy Mitchell, First Flight, and Manteo for my long commercial cross country. Awesome day of flying. Not a single cloud in the sky. Thanks for all the suggestions! GMU and BQ1 are up soon as I have a couple of buddies itching for some good food.

I hope the commentary on this video prompted them to take another look at the chart and recognize their misunderstanding. Hopefully that’s why it was taken down.

Absolutely. One of my instructors is a retired airline captain. He is hands down the best instructor I’ve had. He loves it too but, there is zero monetary incentive for him to spend time away from his family. He instructs only a few select students...none of them primary.

The sad truth is that, despite the tone, @Clip4 seems to be right. I would love to instruct full time as a career, but the income potential of the airlines is just too great a pull. I have family that lives right across the street from Billy Mitchell! That’s definitely in the plans as is landing at First Flight. And as a bonus Concord (JQF) to Billy Mitchell is 250 nm straight line distance on the nose so I can use that for my commercial long cross-country!

I was able to view the question text that I missed on the instrument written, just not the answer choices. The proctor gave me the choice to see.

For the record, I was not asked to do a takeoff under the hood on my checkride...not that I ever expected to. The subject did come up during the oral, however, when talking about part 91 takeoff minimums (or lack there of). The DPE said the she’d done a few 0/0 takeoffs and it was never really...

Take heart. I passed my instrument checkride today. The DPE said the “Good job. The ride has ended now all you have to do is land without killing us.” And of course it was the worst landing I’ve had in ages...happens to us all every once in a while.

I have around 90 hours of time building to do toward my commercial. Any fun airports to visit within 130-150 nm of the Charlotte area?

Passed the Instrument checkride today! So to celebrate, today only I will not refer to myself as a student pilot. Tomorrow I will resume because...say it with me...”a good pilot is always learning” ;)

Anytime I find myself having trouble with my landings it is usually solved by keeping my eyes as far down the runway as possible and thinking “smooth transition” instead of “flare”.
