Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh? .....Oh, it looks good on you though.

How to ease nerves flying solo? (Commercial student)

Yeah It is all about experience at this point. You said you know you are a good pilot. Do you really believe that or are you only saying that because that is what your instructor is telling you? For me the commercial time-building phase was really about breaking out of a "student pilot" mindset...

Ryan, you are quickly becoming a Wednesday night staple at my house. Good little community you are building in the live chat. Keep up the good work. I second the vote for Mike Patey.

How much will airplane prices drop in 2020?

I watch the prices every day...they certainly haven’t started down at all. In fact it looks like “value proposition” is trending the opposite given the clapped out engines and panels I’m seeing.

Cleared into Class Bravo ... Cleared for the option

It definitely feels like bizzaro world out there right now. 2 weeks ago I requested a city tour of Charlotte which is in the Bravo surface area. In the past I've gotten an altitude restriction of about 1800. This time they gave me at or below 3000...and then offered pattern work if I wanted...

    microsofts new flight sim

I know there are a few members here that are part of the alpha test, bound by a NDA, of course. Minimum PC specs were release a few weeks ago. It looks like it will run and a pretty nice range of hardware. Private beta test is scheduled to start in mid/late July. Speculation on my part, but...

How much will airplane prices drop in 2020?

All I know is that I’m watching like a hawk for any sign that light singles will return to some sort of pricing sanity. Nobody’s budging yet!

First time solo IMC - What was it like

I got my my instrument done last November with 1.2 of actual. Wasn’t too much longer until clouds came with served with a side of ice so I stayed VMC until it warmed up. I finally got some solo IMC right before we went into corona lockdown. It was awesome! I doubled my actual IMC time in one...

    I bought a Cherokee 6 for under $30K

Ha your video popped up in my YT suggestions yesterday, @FlyingMonkey. Loved it! I was guessing 150k+ for the all in price. I’m still curious...but maybe I’d rather you not tell everyone. I’m on a similar search and 30k is a lot easier to sell to my wife

For Sale Sporty’s Private Pilot course (VHS)

If it were a musical instrument you could maybe pass it off as “vintage” to justify your asking price. Good luck with that.

Flight Schools in the Charlotte, NC Area

I’ve seen/heard several interviews with him. Super impressive. Once we all come out of lockdown, I’m seriously considering a week down there with him to prep for the CFI ride.

Flight Schools in the Charlotte, NC Area

Look up GkDave on Instagram. He runs Cape Fear Aviation out of Grays Creek (2GC) down below Fayetteville. 3500 x 30 with a big stand of pine trees on the approach end of runway 35. His students get really good at staying on the center line. I imagine it is the same for folks that did their...

Flight Schools in the Charlotte, NC Area

I've done training at Aerowood and most recently with Fly Carolina out of Concord. As a flying club, Fly Carolina is not a bad option. They have a $50/month "student" membership option and a several steam gauge 172's that rent in the $125-130/wet range, $155/hour for G1000, and 50ish/hour for...

Please! Make it stop! (Stock market crash)

Oh, wow. You are right. I was looking in the other direction...for less capable models, but there are some very well equipped 182s out there that look like relative steals compared to the trainer market.
