Exhaust leak ate up the flange. Not having the tool to re-surface them, I sent them off for repair. Had I known that It would take over 3 months to get them back, i would have built the tooling, and surfaced the flanges while on the airplane.

Simple solution: Buy a Taylorcraft, Aeronca Chief, or Luscombe. Learn to fly in it. You'll have no problems with seat height, or short legs, and you'll have tailwheel endorsement as well.

I found that I can get from JZP to FO5 quicker in my Cherokee 140, than I can flying the airlines. And cost a little less too! :D

What is the bare minimum equipment to get an IR? IOW can I get an instrument rating in my airplane with it's out dated equipment? or do I need to spend money on upgrades, that would be better spent (IMHO) with flying under the hood. Granted my options at this point are limited to localizer/ILS...

According to the pinout posted in the OP, for a 14 volt system, pins 1 and 36 are interconnected, and switched to ground to engage the gps input. Also need Aircraft power to pins 35 and 37. for the whole thing to work.

Thing is that the silicon burns out faster than the metal. I asked about it once, and was told by several mechanics, that they use it to hold the gasket in place while they install the exhaust. I use a piece of safety wire myself. And pull it out when the nuts are started.
