    Combined checkride CPL/CFI

Not sure, DAL FSDO was close and easy to work with, so I did several of my rides with them. After looking at my logbook, I did the CFI in 1981 with the HNL FSDO, CFII 1983 with DAL FSDO. In 1985, I combined my ATP, CE-500 type, CE-500 pic 135 and CFIMEI in one ride with the DAL FSDO. In 2008 I...

    Combined checkride CPL/CFI

I think any oral lasting over 2 hours is overkill. The examiner probably knows within 30 minutes if the applicant is prepared for the test or not. I got my CFI in the mid 80’s, with the FAA, and I do not think the oral was over an hour.

Which twins give you a bath if you re-fuel tanks out of order?

Fueling a Falcon 20 over wing will surprise a line guy if they do not know the tanks are pressurized, around 3.5 psi if I remember right. "DASSAULT FALCON 20 Over Wing Refueling WARNING: All Falcon fuel tanks are pressurized. Gravity tanks (overwing) are depressurized by pulling the cap tab...

    GPS Interference at Dallas

In 2007 I started flying an airplane with GPS, Loran, and DME/DME. For several years we flew between Dallas and Phoenix a few times a month. Several times around White Sands we would lose GPS but it did not bother us. I remember one day several planes said they lost GPS and were asking center...

Filing a Complaint With Local FSDO?

18 months is a long time. Airplane should have been through an annual and probably had other work done to it, who did it??? Get a new inspection and go down the road.

Cessna Twin Down, Middlefield, OH 10/13

Go back and look at the flight history. It had been flying for most of the last 24 hours. Looking at the flight history I am guessing the accident pilot started around 7pm the night before, if there was a crew change.

Ad Hoc DME arc on GTN750

About 7 years ago I got one going into Grand Cayman. Arriving from the north we got instructions in intercept the 20nm arc and track it west until intersecting final, landing east. They did not have radar, so we also had to report passing a few radials. It has been a while since then so I could...

Question about magnetos leading to crash

I found this on the Vanairforce page: G3i Experience [Archive] - VAF Forums (vansairforce.net) "Also, the G3 unit does not automatically switch back to MAG mode when there is a failure. This is a misconception. You have to realize there is a problem and turn the G3i system off with the toggle...

    Towers snitching on aborted take-offs?

A few years ago, I departed KADS in our C340, IFR with around 1500 overcast, the gear would not come up. Stayed below the overcast and landed. Around a month later I was asked to call the FAA. All they wanted to know why and a scanned copy of the maintenance log entry of the repair, squat...

    Coddled college kids

I was somewhat coddled. When I got my driver's license, I was given a 36 Ford that I had helped Dad rebuild. I sold it and bought a 64 Corvette roadster with money I made working for a rural water supply system. The Corvette needed work and my Dad helped me rebuild it. When I told Dad I wanted...

    Anyone use online only banking?

I have been using BofA online banking for years. Mom put me on her Wells Fargo account and when she was in the hospital/rehab for 2-3 months I set up online banking for her and paid her bills from 300 miles away. When she got out, she went back to mailing her bills. I tried to tell her she could...

    Sonata hybrid driving in mountains

We rented one in Pagosa Springs, CO. and drove it over a few passes with no problems. We did notice less power when the battery was low, but we were at 10,000+ elevation and figured the engine was having a hard time with the altitude. Since it was a rental, we gave it no mercy.:)

Ever had a full primary GPS/Nav/Comm failure?

In our Citation, with twin 750's, there are breakers for Com1, Nav1, Com2, Nav2 and one for the GMA 35. In the book it says to pull the breaker for the 35, if you have a problem with the 35, and coms will revert to #2 Com. I have tested it and it worked. Bottom line you need to read about your...

Medical Exam - Difference between 1st/2nd/3rd class

How old are you? From what I know second and first are the same except for the EKG's for pilots 35 and older. One at 35 and then every year after 40. I could be wrong. If you do not need a First, I would get a Second.
