Interesting Approach - Not Sure I've Seen This Before

In the Citation I was once cleared for an RNAV approach to a smaller airport in Texas. The turn at the IAF was close to 170 degrees with no published course reversal procedure. In fact, I was very close to a victor airway that the approach said NA headed my direction. I questioned the center...

Help me choose a plane for my mission (Hawaii)

I got my instrument and CFI while living in Hawaii back in the early 80's. Personally, I would be looking for a retractable airplane to increase chances of survival for ditching. In reality it may not help much, if you ditch in one of the channels between the islands. Winds and seas are normally...

    Forgetting to switch tanks

In the mid 80's I accidentally ran the aux tanks dry on a pre-employment ride in a C310. I quickly changed to the mains and got the engines running without losing altitude. Guess I did good because the Chief Pilot hired me. He hired me again several years later to fly a Citation. We are still...

Vision jet goes for a swim

Does the SF50 have any kind of emergency braking system? The jets I have flown had one or two hydraulic systems going to the brakes or you could release nitrogen into a single brake system. Turboprops you could use reverse.

    I Hate Enterprise

One of the few things I like about Enterprise Car Rental. "Did you know? Founder Jack Taylor selected the name Enterprise as a salute to the WWII aircraft carrier he served on, the USS Enterprise. Today, the “Enterprise” name is synonymous with the leadership and vision of the business. "...

So far away from me ...

My dad was doing that out of Seattle and would request direct KDFW, 727 Continental airlines, in the 80's. They did not have long range nav back then. One night ATC asked how they were doing it. After confessing they were put back on Jet Airways.

So far away from me ...

My personal best with marine VHF was over 400 miles one morning when we heard some friends. We were in Aves de Sotavento and they were in St. Croix. We were surprised to hear them on the VHF channel 16. Changed to another channel and verified where they were and talked for around 20 minutes...

    Complex/High Performance aircraft questions

I remember using 25" and 2,500 RPM for climb in normally aspirated airplanes. I have not flown them much since the 80's.

Commander N965BC Crashes in Icing Conditions 13 Apr 2024 in San Bernadino Mountains

I believe Mr. Brown says that pilots with less than 300 hours in type are at higher risk. I have not seen what the pilot's times were in this accident. I did read that the pilot was 35 years old, so not a kid.
