BOEING 767F crash near Houston in the bay Atlas cargo

@DavidWhite you may be right, but after looking at the data that is provided by FlightAware, the aircraft was at FL335 at 25 minutes past the hour. 5 minutes later, it was at FL178. A loss 15,700 feet in five minutes is pretty steep. I guess they *could* have experienced a micro-burst at that...

    Garmin 430's

The picture shows the back plate of a GTN650 at the top, with the built-in fan, and the GNS430 at the bottom, with no way to keep it cool. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

    Garmin 430's

'430s do not have built-in cooling fans, and should have some type of forced air (like a fan) to cool them. If there is a fan installed, check the operation of it to make sure it's actually working correctly. Just a thought from an avionics student . . . Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

    L-ittle, S-tandard, M-ega

I once asked for a "small" size item, and was told that this particular place didn't have "small," only "medium," "large," and "extra-large." I opened my mouth . . . caught *those* words just in time, took a very deep breath . . . and asked for a "medium." Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

    Icom portable headset adapter question

Basic wiring skills . . . Check. In the past two years, I've looked at the back side more than the front of the radios, audio panels and transponders. If I couldn't wire a simple PTT switch by now, my instructors would escort me out. LOL! My plan, at the moment, is to use it on the ramp as...

    Icom portable headset adapter question

@Matthew Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm not actually a licensed pilot . . . yet. I'm in the final classes for an Avionics degree, and not sure what direction my life is going career-wise. I may become a line tech at an FBO for a little while, then transition into an avionics position, or...

    Icom portable headset adapter question

Thanks Ron. I'm looking at the IC-A24, and will just go ahead and purchase the external switch along with the radio (it already comes with the adapter).

    Icom portable headset adapter question

Has anyone purchased the headset adapter for Icom portables (or have one that came with the portable), and know if it will be necessary to purchase a separate PTT switch, or if the button on the side of the portable will work to key the radio? I read somewhere that it's necessary to purchase a...

    Manifest

Agree that it is much deeper than I expected, and the practicality of an aircraft flying for five years on the same load of fuel, well . . . but I'm still looking forward to watching the season finale tomorrow night on Hulu since we didn't get home in time tonight. I don't normally get caught up...

    Emotional Support Squirrel

A buddy of mine from school was asking where someone could get one of those special support animals. I told him there was a church down in Pascagoula, MS that ran a program for them. Then I sent him this link . . .

Non pilot friends and crash articles.

I'm one of those non-pilot folks (avionics student and father of a 22-year old First Officer for a regional) who follows safety-related articles, and shares them with both pilot and non-pilot friends in the industry. We "analyze" the situation, and discuss what must have happened and how it can...

@flyingcheesehead that looks like quite an interesting place. Thank you for the link. I'm bookmarking the site, and will check it out on the computer . . . this phone isn't the best platform for a site like that!
