Someone Just Had a Very Bad Day in D.C.

Airspace violation reported, fighter jets scrambled and the White House was put on lockdown. Welcome to hell to whoever made that mistake.

    Beech Sport 411

Not sure I’d believe that. I’ve always heard they are 100-105kt airplanes and markedly slower than even a Skyhawk. Heck, the Sundowner is like a 110kt plane.

    Mooney gone?

My avatar is a picture of me flying an M20J. And I'm 5'9" 160. Your post is typical though. I don't hate Mooney's. But to argue they are even close to a Cirrus (or a lot of other GA airplanes) in ergonomics puts you in a tiny minority. And remember, this a thread about why Mooney can't compete...

    Motivated (crazy) sellers

I think this one is as bad as the 172. At least that one has a ton of new glass and new paint/interior. https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/34326617/1979-cessna-182q-skylane That’s a 1978 182Q with some STOL equipment and 300HP conversion, original paint, and a Garmin 430...

    Mooney gone?

Because contrary to what owners of them will swear, they are cramp, uncomfortable planes compared to a Cirrus. Even the pilot's seating position is contentious.

    Avionics options/opinions

I've looked into the Trio. If it were the same cost to install as the TruTrak, it might make sense, but it's a lot more expensive. The TruTrak just makes too much sense if it's between those two. uAvionix looks like an option though. Thanks.

    Avionics options/opinions

Here's the deal. My 182P partnership is looking at doing some avionics upgrades. The attitude indicator is on the fritz, so there's a coming decision of whether we want to replace it or just go glass for the long term. Plane currently has a 430/GNX375 combo (latter is GPS navigator + WAAS +...

    Cold weather starting

Down here, we don't get many full days below freezing (we see some 20 degree nights in the winter though). Our procedure is to pull the prop through a few times. It's probably not doing a dang thing, but whatever. I'm a believer that unless you just do it continually, a few cold starts a year...

    Partnership for New Student?

The Dakota does have a constant speed prop. It's high performance, so higher insurance costs, but the main factor is a student + a high performance aircraft. That's not a combination they like although they will at least insure you and your 2nd years insurance will plummet. I've got a 182P, so...

    Partnership for New Student?

You can get your commercial in a ratted out 172 now. I did. You just need 10 hours of dual complex at some point along the journey.

    Partnership for New Student?

What exactly is your payload? 4 people and bags 80% of your flights while you build time? Because you made it sound like you are going to be building time and an Archer will still fit 4 reasonably sized people with fuel to the tabs when that mission comes up (and it will come up much less than...

    Partnership for New Student?

The 236 is not roomier. It's the same size as any other Cherokee. You need a Warrior, 180, or an Archer IMO if you want to rent it and want a Piper. Somewhere along the way you'll need to get 10 hours of dual retract, but you can do the rest of your commercial and the checkride in a non-complex...

    Vision Jet autoland

It’s an emergency landing with an incapacitated pilot. Perfect circumstances aren’t a requirement. If there’s a disabled plane on the runway then someone’s bad day ends up worse. I’m guessing it doesn’t care what the weather minimums are. It’s just flying it into the ground in a controlled manner anyway.

    Vision Jet autoland

That looked like a pretty hard landing. Safe, but hard. Probably not something you'd want to be doing regularly anyway.

    PPL cost and federal taxes

True, but no one should assume that even the best CPAs will catch this stuff off hand. Very, very few ever deal with pilots and writing off training costs. My wife worked for the most prestigious CPA firm in town and niche topics could be trouble. It's probably something you'd need to bring up...
